14: Tragic Kingdom (5.31)
The song starts with music that’s I’m sure is from a film when something ‘tragic’ happens. It is about a kingdom that has gone wrong. The king is cold and so cruel ‘icicles drip from his eyes’. He is over thrown by the people ... Read review

Tragic Kingdom - No Doubt

not many. Yet somehow, this distinctly British movement--arising specifically out of the country's polarised racial dynamic--managed to cross over, finding an eager audience among suburban American teens, most of whom viewed it less as a social determinant, than as a stylistic outcrop of skate-punk and hardcore. Fronted by platinum-blonde Gwen Stefani, No Doubt defied the genre's traditionally masculine archetype, just as their sound--part Two-Tone, part Blondie--hinted at broader commercial ambitions. The supremely annoying "Just A Girl" might have bought them to mainstream attention, showcasing Stefani's little-girl delivery, but it was their subsequent singles--"Don't Speak", a melodramatic power-ballad, and the bouncy, irrepressible "Sunday Morning"--which really proved their mettle, even as their new-found success alienated many long-time fans. --Andrew McGuire
Advantages: Entertain with some outstanding songs Disadvantages: A few fillers that sound very simular
...were you? It is a tragic song about the end of a relationship. She knows he is about to break up with her but she doesn’t want to hear the words so she tells him to ‘don’t speak’. It’s a very soft song and suitable for a slow dance or relaxing. 11: You Can Do It (4.13) This song has a very catchy happy beat. While just listening to it I’ve found myself dancing. It is about a kingdom that has gone wrong. The king is cold and so cruel ‘icicles drip from his eyes’. He is over thrown by the people who then gain the power. Each person promises to be good but they all abuse the power and are the same as who they overthrown. It’s basically ...

Advantages: A very interesting album. Disadvantages: Not everybody's cup of tea, but the same could be said abbout any album.
...telling the tale of "The Tragic Kingdom". All in all this album is worth having in your cd collection, and yet again I recommend it to you. Pop-punk at it's best, and a band that fit well with other bands in the Ska category, well living up to the standard of Madness. No Doubt indeed. ...

The perfection of Gwen Steffani sums up all that is brilliant about this entire album. I could just say that, but I know that I have a word limit to fulfil, I also know that technically it is not really true. That although she is a superb frontwoman/lyricist and all round sex goddess, there are innumerable factors which conspire to make this album absolutely outstanding. There is firstly the all consuming power and passion of the band, evident from ... ...steel drums and trumpet along with angry shouting Steffani and really loud guitar accompiament. The use of unusual musical instruments is evident throughout this album, whilst I would not go as far as to describe No Doubt as a Ska-Punk band, their Orange County roots and Madness based inspiration is obvious. They combine saxophone, steel drums, cello, sitar and trombone with the more traditional instruments of a rock band, this inspired use of variety ...

Advantages: EVERYTHING AS USUAL Disadvantages: nothing
...bored with it! Tragic Kingdom also includes the releases Just a Girl (taken from Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion soundtrack) and Spiderwebs (a track that was released before Dont Speak but failed to make an impression on the charts!) One of my favorite tracks on the album is Spiderwebs, a great funky song with trumpet at the beginning and a great catchy chorus. Other great tracks include Don't Speak, Hey You (which was a B-side on the Don't ... ...morning 10. Don't speak 11. You can do it 12. World go 'round 13. End it on this 14. -----14. Tragic Kingdom (5.31)-----
Wow! This track tops it off so well.
I mean it does have some lyrics that are a bit weird, about a Kingdom that has been locked up and hidden and lost from the world that is relightened, paying homage to a king, the drawbridge opened, a bit mythical really. Starts off with dialog of an aeroplane tannoy.
The music is dramatic after that and the lyrics are wicked, all about destiny and the lost ...
