dream theater were lined up for a lot of critism for there new album "Train Of Thought" with the first track named "As I Am", many suggesting the band hinting to the fans to take the new approach by dream theater to its music as it is.Personally, i was terribly dissappointed with this album AT FIRST.then when you listen a good few times...and as i did saw them perform the whole album live at the opening of their recent world tour, you really really get into this album, and its now easily ranks up there with scences from a memory , images and words and six degrees of inner turbelence.the first thing u will notice while listening is that this album is in general a lot heavier than any of dream theaters previous works and it comes as quite a shock. myung really gives that B string a work out which is supported quite brilliantly by portnoy and his double bass and petruccis riffs and solos, and to be honest, he is on FIRE on this album, some of the best solos heard yet.all this is rounded off with some quite...amusing keyboard/synth playing by rudess and taking centre stage is la brie with some awesome vocals on this album...he really hits the high notes well here. i reccomend one buys this album and gives it a chance, at first you may be a little disappointed but then urll really get into it and will like dream theaters new style. track listing: 1)As I Am 2)This Dying Soul(part IV and V of the Mirror glass prison) 3)Endless Sacrifice 4)Honor Thy Father 5)Vacant 6)Stream of Conciousness(my favourite song on album) 7)In The Name of God(La Brie really shines here)

Although a DT fan myself, i wouldn't give them too much credit for this album.
You have stated the good parts ..ok. now what about the fillers; and the parts you don't like. Needs a bit more objection? sorry. I would still have to buy it though!!!!

You need to say a little more about Dream Theater's musical style, for those who haven't heard of them before now. "Heavier" is as good a description as anything, but "heavier" compared to what?
