Perfect programme music Review of Smetana: Czech Dances; Vltava by avitallly Advantages: Great for children, memorable melody Disadvantages: none ...Smetana's Vltava is one of the most enjoyable pieces of programme music out there. It tells the story of the river Vltava as it grows from a trickle down the mountain, to a stream though a forest full of hunters, past a pool of dancing Rusalki, a legendary Czech leprechaun-type creature, until it becomes a river, with whirlpools and currents, flowing towards the sea. I find it an excellent way of introducing classical music to schoolchildren, as it creates a visual picture while you listen. Even without the "story", Vltava is a grand, powerful piece of music, with a strong, memorable melody and rich harmonies. The only thing that ruins this piece for me is the fortissimo perfect cadence at the very end of the piece - totally cheesy and unnecessary.... BOP YO HEAD!............to a disco track? Review of Punk Debutante - Cooler Kids by kungfuhuppie Advantages: A brilliant album that will keep you boppin your head for hours. Disadvantages: None ...While most of you may remember Sisely Treasure from 'Search for the Next Pussycat Doll' (on Channel 4), not many of you may know thats she's in a band as well. Cooler Kids, formed in 2002, is made up of Kaz Gamble, Jill Cunniff and of course Sisely Treasure. Their debut album Punk Debutante was a cult hit. The album combines power pop and disco to make a sound that will keep you hooked for eternity. The album provides a fresh new beat in a world of music dominated by Rap and Hip Hop. This is definately worth the money and it is probably one of the best unknown albums out there. Althought the Cooler Kids have broken up, this album is definately a sign that there is better stuff just around the corner.... Buried Treasures Review of Pearls From The Oysters - Oyster Band (The) by mikeydred Advantages: A Bargain introduction the on of Britains best Folk Rock Bands Disadvantages: None ...The Oyster Band are one of Britain foremost folk rock band. They combine the energy of punk with an in depth knowledge of Britain's musical folk heritage, traditional and modern instrumentation, and an ear for an excellent tune. This collection draws thirty songs from their formation in the mid eighties up to the onset of the nineties. Their music reflects their resentment to the Thatcherite culture of the time, but folk music is very often about protest. They write their own music, draw on traditional tunes and cover contempory artists songs. Thus we get Nick Lowe's "Rose of England" , Billy Bragg's "Between the Wars" and New Orders "Love Vigilantes". They hark back to traditional tunes with "New York Girls" (also covered by Steeleye Span with Peter Sellers), "Molly Bond", and "Star of The County Down". Their own composition stand...
