Advantages: Extremely good quality elecrronica Disadvantages: May not appeal to all
Autechre, consist of just 2 artists, whom also work under the alternative alias Gescom on the skam record label, this release under the highly successful Warp label is in my opinion the best of Autechre's long playing releases. I own the whole undeleted Autechre discography and out of them all i find this release the most varied and satisfying, when compared to incunabula which is more synth based and less aggressive, this album may be more appealing ... ...no means mainstream music but shows Autechre's full range of talent. The sleeve design created by by the highly successful Chris Cunningham, responsible for the aphex twin come to daddy video, along with Bjork's 'all is full of love' music video.
This in an electronic classic, and though some tracks are quite noisy and glitchy, this isnt too harsh or headache inducing, its a very nice album, and there is no track on here that I would bypass. I have ...

Advantages: Wicked music Disadvantages: ...A little abstract for some...
Autechre make sounds that by rights should be emitted by the factory that built the terminatior machines. If they were making fluffy robots that bring you a cup of tea, and not Austrian-accented killing machines. Does that make any sense? Ok then, how about this: For Abstract sprawling soundscapes that seem to almost defy description in their grandiose and epic scale, that exist as they are without recourse to easy reference points or dance -cheese ... ...know when you hear something and it slots right into place in your brain, and leaves you thinking "That was wonderful - i always wondered why no-one made this sort of music before". Thats how their music made me feel. This is, insofar as it can be defined, techno, but the description does not really do it justice. Its the kind of music that brings up visions of a post-apocalyptic future, It is like Blade Runner music (appy polly loggies Vangelis) ...

Advantages: some great songs Disadvantages: too experimental for some
...snarling, slow machine-funk of "Dael," Tri Repetae fully confirms Autechre's evolution into electronic noise kings. If not as immediately experimental as the fractured work by the likes of Merzbow, Tri Repetae expertly harnesses the need for a beat to perfectly balance out the resolutely fierce, crunching samples and busy arrangements, turning from being inspired by Aphex Twin to being equally inspiring in itself. "Rotar" does a particularly fine ... ...and the echoing beats of "Radio" (perhaps not so ironically, the most straightforward of the album's songs) to close things out, Tri Repetae stands as a varied, accomplished album, clear evidence of Autechre's unique genius around sound. American releases included a bonus disc compiling the Anvil Vapre and Garbage EPs. ...

Advantages: Unique, elegant, dreamlike Disadvantages: Tracks 2 and 10 are flawed
...Incunabula was the first album released by Autechre in 1993.
As an interesting side note, Incunabula means "swaddling clothes" in Latin.
Sean Booth and Robert Brown, a.k.a Autechre, are true masters of electronica. Much like Richard Devine, Mira Calix, Datach'i, Venetian Snares and Squarepusher, these guys expand the clichéd genres of I.D.M (Intelligent Dance Music) and electronica in general.
Incunabula is the first of 15 others works by Autechre.
It is a tremendously influential piece of work and most importantly, is the root and core to all other Autechre releases; as well as a key to unlocking their frame of mind.
Usually, you will find 3 kinds of Autechre fans:
- Those who prefer their first 7 works; Incunabula, Basscadet, Anti, Amber, TriRepetae, Garbage and Anvil Vapre.
- Those who are mystified by Envane and Peel...

Advantages: Original. Intelligent. A specific sound. Disadvantages: Track 10 is a bit dissapointing.
.... It almost sounds like a clichéd I.D.M score. But here, Autechre are not trying to expand sound, but rather use retro-keyboard sequences in a lively way. Slip has a sense of nostalgia about it; one of authenticity and classic I.D.M rooting.
Glitch uses close-fitting progression; simple technoid time signatures plus some kind of very well positioned metallic gongs. The atmosphere is so mysterious that it seems to combine human feeling with robotic frostiness. A great track.
Piezo is an expansion upon Glitch; in a way. It morphs from alien hip-hop, to dance-like mutations, to built-up ambient. All this takes place in a purely Autechre-ish fashion, in a wonderful soundscaping of vast echoing endlessness.
Nine is my favourite track. Shorter than others, it paints a deep space feel, with lush and dusty keyboard twinkling and processed vocals...
