Advantages: A fun show with a lot of energy and some impeccable multicultural performances Disadvantages: A couple of pieces not so great, audience presence can be disturbing
Yanni (born Yiannis Chrysomallis) is probably one of the most popular musical artists in the world specializing in predominately instrumental music. Being very much a self-taught talent, he was born in Kalamata, Greece, where he learned to play the piano and tried his hand at composition as well. He eventually left Greece and enrolled as a student to the University of Minnesota where he joined the rock group Chameleon, headed by drummer Charlie Adams, involving themselves with some small time touring to no great fame. After growing tired to the life of a rock'n'roller he decided to focus solely on instrumental music as a composer and soloist, soon to be followed in this endeavor by Adams as well, the two of them striking out a collaboration that has lasted to this day. After gathering some fame with his 1992 album "Dare to Dream," he ...
Advantages: Tasty, light and fresh. A really good balanced beer. Disadvantages: A little more expensive than some beers.
We went out for lunch with my mum and dad on Tuesday to the Wellington Hotel in New Whittington (near Chesterfield). Our lunch was excellent and so was the beer. The Wellie has a choice of up to three Cask Ales and we tried two each ~ Alun had St. Austell Tribute and Jennings Snecklifter and I had Snecklifter and Tribute. My dad tried the Camerons Strongarm and even my lager drinking mother had a half of the Tribute. I?ve already reviewed Snecklifter and Strongarm, so I will now tell you about St. Austell Tribute!
~~~THE BREWERY.
The St. Austell Brewery Company Limited started back in 1851 ~ funnily enough in St. Austell in Cornwall. It was founded by Walter Hicks a farmer who mortgaged his farm to fund his new business. The Brewery is still a family owned business who now (according to the company info on their website) own ...
Advantages: A great tribute. Stellar line-up. Benefits a worthy cause. Disadvantages: Some of the fashons are now very dated!
These two DVDs comprise a tribute to Freddie Mercury, who died in 1991 after succumbing to AIDS. All the artists involved gave their time for free - and those included reads like a Who's Who of British rock music, in addition to artists from overseas such as Metallica and Liza Minelli.
There is an array of "extras" on the 2 DVDs, including rehearsal footage for each act (press enter when you see the "i" box at the corner of your screen), a documentary on the great Freddie Mercury and press photos from the event itself.
---Why should I bother listening to something that is over 10 years old?----
Because Queen were a seminal rock group; because buying the video will help AIDS charities fight the disease; because it is a moving and uplifting event; because the atmosphere is captured brilliantly in the film; because it contains ...
Recorded live at the Taj Mahal, TRIBUTE pays musical homage to India on several songs; Greek-born composer and keyboardist Yanni describes the album as a tribute to the builders of the Taj and the Forbidden City, as well as to the people of India and China. Yanni's ethereal keyboard work is backed by an immense orchestra, vocalists, a choir, and various world instruments including didgeridoo, doodook, charango, and bamboo saxophone. The music is atmospheric and grand, expressing a variety of emotional states, from the triumphant opening song, "Deliverance," to the romantic, Spanish-tinged "Love is All," sung soulfully by Vann Johnson: "I am breath against this fire/And I will not turn away/I'm waiting for time to carry me/Like a tempest to the sea." TRIBUTE is an album of optimistic, dynamic music which seems geared to generate a wide variety of emotional responses from its listeners.
