Meshing a harder pop-edged sound with a mess of tongue-in-cheek references to their own silliness, Reel Big Fish's debut full-length is a fun romp through ska twists on heavy metal, pop and '80s over-the-topness.
Unlike some albums where eventually you will grow tired off, this is one of those very rare albums, that you will have stuck on repeat.
Althought the band is Primarily a "Ska" band, this album is not really confined to this genre, and will be appreaciated by listeners of many other styles of music.
The band also has a tongue-in-cheek humor, which many should find humourous, this is a great album, to dance/sing and even chill out to, guaranteed to be pride of your music collection, and that the disc will never stop spinning.
Be warned, if you purchase this album, you may be complused to buy the rest of the bands ...
Advantages: Fantastic Ska Sound, Humourous Lyrics Disadvantages: Not As Good As Their 3rd Album (But Not Far Off!)
So now I know that at least 3 people on Ciao know who these guys are, I feel it’s time I treated you to an in-depth op on their second album – Turn The RadioOff (from now referred to as TTRO to save space and prevent repetitive strain injury). Reel Big Fish released TTRO in 1996, into an America that was going bonkers for Ska, and this, their second album, really got them noticed. The single Sellout got some major airplay on alternative radio in the states and even MTV noticed who they were. So is it a one-single-wonder or a modern musical masterpiece?
Sellout (3.46)
It is a great track, there’s absolutely no denying that, and it really arrived at the right time. The issue of selling out has caused many an argument among ska and punk fans across the world and this track looks at it from a humorous angle ...
Advantages: Great lyricism Disadvantages: A couple of the tunes are just average
"I Am.." is the third album by the New York rapper, Nas. It came out in 1999, and was shortly followed up by "Nastradamus" later onm in the year. Nas continued to show off his lyrical talent as he had with his first couple of records, and his joint effort along with Foxy Brown, Nature and AZ as part of The Firm.
1. "Intro"
2. "N.Y. State of Mind Pt. II"
This is a revisit by Nas as he goes back to material from his debut release, "Illmatic" for inspiration as he does a remix to it. You have him doing similar things in this tune as he raps on a sample of the DJ Premier beat for this new take on the tune which he originally recorded in 1994.
**Four Stars**
3. "Hate Me Now" (feat. Puff Daddy)
The purpose of having this one on here, apart from the music is the controversy surrounding to the video to it, in which Nas is ...

Album Reviews
Mojo (4/03, p.102) - 5 stars out of 5 - "...This is the most confrontational rap album released in years, recalling the ferocity of prime Public Enemy, while stylistically resembling OutKast..." Uncut (2/03, p.77) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...[DPZ] apply gangsta-style aggression to an anti-capitalist agenda that circumnavigates Chuck D and heads straight back to the Black Panthers and Mao..."
