The Feeling are a British band well-known for their hit singles "Sewn" and "Fill My Little World". I first heard their music whilst browsing a friend's iPod - I came across "Fill My Little World Right Up" and couldn't get it out of my head all day. If you haven't even heard their singles yet, hurry up and get them! For those of you who have, and want to know whether The Feeling deserve an album purchase, you've come to the right place.
Those of you who like your rock, soft rock and pop-rock, (which I will gladly admit to), The Feeling are right up your avenue. When listening to their songs you'll be reminded of some past greats, such as ELO and even Elton John, but the music is fresh for 2006 and works a treat on the old eardrums.
Track 1: I Want You Now 6/10 "I want you now, I don't care how, we're both too young to be sittin' around..."
A nice opening track to the album. It really introduces you to the sound that you'll be hearing throughout the rest of the album, ie. lots of harmonies, "baa-doo"s and other such warblings from the backing singers, neat lyrics and very catchy choruses. Not one of the top 3 songs on the album, but good all the same, and a good lead up to the better songs (in my opinion) on Twelve Stops And Home.
Track 2: Never Be Lonely 9/10 "People in love get fast and foolish, people in
love get everything wrong..."
One of the best songs on the album, Never Be Lonely is a fresh little mix of great singing, a catchy chorus (AND verses!) and you've just got to hear the line "B..b..b..baby, I think I'm going c..c..c..crazy" and you'll be singing it all day long. There's even a guitar solo on this track - great!
Track 3: Fill My Little World 9/10 "Hey, show some love, you ain't so tough, come fill my little world right up, right up..."
The most recent single by the band, Fill My Little World is an instant catcher and if you haven't already done so, you'll be singing it all day. A funky little pop song, one of the definite winners on the album.
Track 4: Kettle's On 10/10 "When I think about your sweet face, I can't wait for you to come home..."
In my opinion the best song on the album, I've listened to it A LOT already. Okay so the title sounds crazy, but it makes sense once you've listened to the song, honest! The song is downbeat in the verses but builds up nicely to the chorus where you get quite a sad melody about a guy waiting for someone to come home to him. Gets me every time! Lovely piano backing and voice echoing gives this song a distinctive sound. And don't forget the classy guitar solo!
Track 5: Sewn 6/10 "So give me the song, and I'll sing it like I mean it..."
The first single the band released. Sewn sounds quite different to the other songs on the album, probably due to the lack of music, it's mostly just a steady drumbeat, some piano and singing. It doesn't have that same summery kick that the rest of the album has, but still stands its own as a pop song.
Track 6: Anyone 4/10 "Where the hell did you get that smile..."
A nice song to settle into the mid-section of the album, but the chorus is a bit dull and unimaginative. Okay, but not one of the better songs on the album.
Track 7: Strange 6/10 "People gonna rate you, people gonna hate you, people gonna shove you, people gonna love you, people gonna do whatever makes them feel they own you better..."
Similar to Sewn at first, it quickly builds into a relaxing song with a quirky chorus which is really complimented by the singer hanging onto every few words. Not one to make you feel all summery, but a good chillout song all the same.
Track 8: Love It When You Call 9/10 "I love it when you call, I love it when you call..."
Get ready for a right funky number. The lyricist's way of singing "I" will be whistled from your lips over and over, it's that groovy. A superb addition to the album with some nice electronic sounds in the background (really nice at the beginning).
Track 9: Rosé 3/10 "Rosé, I love your delicate way..."
A nice song but doesn't really fit in with the rest of the album. It feels like it's losing steam at this point, which is not good, even on track 9! Melancholy and downbeat, it doesn't suit The Feeling at all. They should stick to their dancing summer songs.
Track 10: Same Old Stuff 3/10 "My love, we're made of the same old stuff..."
Following on from Rosé, Same Old Stuff feels like the album is still winding down, as if the band have run out of energy. Even the chorus is subdued. What a disappointment.
Track 11: Helicopter 8/10 "I've had this feeling before, my heart is crawling in the mud, mud, mud..."
Thank God for Helicopter. After Rosé and Same Old Stuff, this is the song you'll be hoping for. Catchy and simple, this one's a real grower. I wasn't too keen at first but now it's one of my favourites. Don't ask me about the lyrics though! The only negative with Helicopter is when it jumps into heavy rock mode near the end. It's like, where did that come from?!?
Track 12: Blue Piccadilly 1/10 "That's when the blue piccadilly takes me away from the city..."
This is the song which contains the immortal lines "Twelve Stops And Home". It's a pity the album's closer doesn't leave you with good memories. It's slow, it's boring and it lacks even the slightest tune. Where's the catchy chorus we crave from The Feeling?
OVERALL 8/10
It's unfortunate that only 7 or 8 of the 12 songs are really worth listening to, but the good more than makes up for the bad. If you only buy the album for Kettle's On, I Love It When You Call and Never Be Lonely, you'd be a very happy person, but thankfully there's a handful more that are good listening too.
The Feeling are definitely a band worth keeping your eye on - I have no doubt that they'll have more hits with their catchy songs. Expect the next single released to be one of the three songs I mentioned above.
Hopefully, The Feeling will realise their mistakes from this album when producing the next one (hope I don't have to wait too long!) and fill it with upbeat summer choruses that they're getting to be well-known for now.
I would definitely recommend Twelve Stops From Home - it's well worth a buy. The cheapest I've found it for you guys is at 4cheapcds.com, for just £7.99. Bargain!

It's a very listenable album, but I agree Blue Piccadilly is a disappointing end to it. My favourite track is "Strange" - the chorus alone is amazing. Lexy

a couple of friends of mine went to see them play in our own little town not long ago and said they were very good!
