The music produced by Eric.W on the album Twende Twende is desccribed as a combination of Kenyan Benga rhythm and East African guitars, with a touch of modern harmony. Twende Twende which translates to 'Lets go!' is a fantastic second album and has left many hoping for more from this great musician.
Eric W was born in Nairobi, Kenya on the 28 August 1973. He is now an internationally renowned musician who first hit the music scene in the 1990s performing with a gospel group. His debut album was called Sawa Sawa, which means 'everything is alright', and was launched in 2001. He is an original Kora award winging singer and song writer.
Eric W began playing piano at the young age of 4, a gift that was originally intended for his brother Simon who instead took keen interest in football. Whilst attending St. Mary's School, Nairobi, he regularly attended choir lessons and thus further developed his interest. His influence came from international artists such as Papa Wemba, Youssou N'Dour, Lokua Kanza and Paul Simon.
Eric Wainaina took it upon himself to campaign against corruption in Kenya and this led to him being named one of the top 100 Africans of the year for 2000.
This album is definitely worth buying, I haven't come across any highstreet stores in the UK selling it, but there are a number of online stores such as amazon and CDbaby. If you do purchase the album, the following few tracks are worth looking out for, Ni Kii Kiega , Dek Dek Dek, Jana Ni Jana and of course Twende Twende. Although it is harder to get ahold of, it is also worth trying to track down the first album!
