Advantages: Some great seasons and particularly good characters, pretty gripping, Disadvantages: Stereotypes, can become a bit too unbelievable (not in a good way - the immortal Jack Bauer!)
- Introduction -
24, or TwentyFour, is a popular US semi-political (though fictional!) drama show thats currently filming its seventh season.
I first read about it in the TV supplement of The Observer one Sunday morning in early 2002, where it mentioned the first episode of the first season would be shown that night on BBC2, so I decided to give it a shot and watch it that night. Little did I know that I would be hooked on this show and that it would still be around in 6 years time.
I wanted to post a general review about the show, explaining what its roughly about, what I like and don't like about it so far, with some basic info. on the seasons (series) so far, rather than posting a review for one, or even each (which would take a really long time!) of the DVD box sets, so I decided to post my review here. Advantages: Easy read, real page turner Disadvantages: Based on tragic events
Boy A
As both a film broadcasted by Channel Four and a Book, Boy A has shocked me to the core, its shockingly realistic and naked representation of children in society is not hidden, however it amazingly portrays the other side to cruelty and violence from very young children against other children. I hope that readers can appreciate that this review is not just of a book and is also of a documentary/film and of the tragic reality that the book tells.
The Book
Boy A is a novel written by a British author called Jonathan Trigell and it was published in 2004. The novel tells the story of a young man released into society after being imprisoned as a very young boy, he has a new identity ...
Advantages: Fabulous ending Disadvantages: Some of it is quite dull
Detective Lieutenant William Somerset is just six days off retiring when he becomes involved in the hunt for a serial killer. Aided by Detective David Mills, it soon becomes clear that the murders, although initially random, do have something in common - each of them is the representation of one of the seven deadly sins. Gluttony, for example, is represented by a man so overweight that he was unable to escape from his tormentor. Slowly, the two detectives begin to piece the evidence together, and Mills almost catches the serial killer, nick-named John Doe, at one point, only to narrowly escape with his life. Will they finally catch up with John Doe? Or is he destined to always be one step ahead?
Made in 1995 and directed by David Fincher, this film was much praised on release for being excellent in just about every way possible ...
