Advantages: A real challenge to the brain cells, if you're up for it! Disadvantages: Unwatchable as a stand alone feature.
?FireWalk With Me? (FWWM) was the eagerly anticipated prequel and sequel of sorts to the television series ?TwinPeaks? released in 1992. For the uninitiated: TwinPeaks was a show that took television by storm at the start of the 1990s. It followed Special Agent Dale Cooper and his attempts to solve the murder of teenager Laura Palmer. The series ran two seasons before a totally polarising finale and cancellation in 1991, the fans were hungry for more whilst the general public were left scratching their heads in puzzlement.
I was firmly in the first camp. David Lynch?s television series fired up my imagination. The mix of surreal humour, a conventional whodunnit theme and moments of buttock clenching terror was like food and drink to my fertile teenage mind. Kyle McLaughlin played Agent Dale Cooper (or ?Coop) an incredibly wholesome ...
Advantages: A horrific murder scene, answering for sure the real question on everyones lips Disadvantages: Long, badly editited and confusing
Welcome to TwinPeaks!
Set just prior to the television series TwinPeaks: FireWalk With Me sets out to explain the story of Laura Palmer. Personally I loved the television series it had a blend of nice drama, humour, romance, horror, and mystery. FireWalk With Me forgets everything bar the horror and the romance. It's not filmed the way the series was, you know that the terror is there from the very first scene. Firewalk with me is very twisted indeed, and for me there were few redeeming features.
As the movie begins we see a montage ...
To say that David Lynch has a unique vision as a film maker is to try and say black is an off white.
The opening shot of his TwinPeaks movie is David Lynch putting an axe through a television set. An appropriate beginning, for in adapting his dark soap opera for the big screen, Lynch turns the cult show into a deeply unsettling and ultimately stunning examination of the effects of child abuse and teenage nihilism. In short, David Lynch is in prime weird country - again.
FireWalk With Me is a prequel to that love it or hate it television series TwinPeaks. It opens a year before the discovery of Laura Palmer’s body, with the corpse of one Teresa Banks being found.
For this first section of the movie, Lynch is working in a different, lighter, key. It’s almost as if the movie is working in ciphers similar to ...
