Being a fan of UB40 since 1984 I thought it was about time I actually went to see them live. I went last year (1999) to see them play at their sell out tour (the NEC in Brum) Being local Brummie lads, the crowd for the nec leg of their tour is always a top crowd. Birmingham are proud of the UB's and rightly so. A group of local lads, who had nothing, but their love of reggae music, and their unemployment benefit made good.
They are still great performers, playing a mix of their old classics like King Tyler red red wine to some of their new stuff from the new labour of love III album.
The whole arena was standing, singing, dancing along, the atmosphere was amazing (and i was wondering why id never been to see them before now!) The crowd were a mix of old and young, like me at 29 who grew up on UB40 to the younger 17 and 18 yr olds who have fallen in love with their music.
They started off the concert showign the labour of love video, before coming on stage to a huge welcome.
I was seated about half way on, so didnt get the chance to see my boys up close, but it was worth it. I am definitely going to see them again when I get the chance, as soon as they announce another gig here. Unmissable
