You have the choice of two entirely different driving modes, which I found the most appealing thing about this car. Drive it like a conventional automatic and it is seamlessly smooth (there are no gears to change in the conventional sense) and it will get you from A to B as quickly as you want to go and with no fuss, or effort on the drivers part at all.
The second mode provides you with an artificial gearbox of sorts. It introduces no fewer than seven "steps" into the transmission, operated by Formula One style paddle switches on the steering wheel. All you have to do is press the right hand button on the steering wheel and you can play Formula One ace games by changing up and down through the seven transmission steps. Advantages: space, comfort, flexibility, fuel economy Disadvantages: absolutely none for me
Having endured a horrifying M5 breakdown in my 5 year old Escort not long ago, I decided the time was right for a new car. And I wanted brand new, in the hope that I would be guaranteed a few years trouble-free motoring (and hopefully no sudden expenses) with a good warranty and some peace of mind.
In my new car, I wanted the following features:
Light and easy to drive
Comfortable seating and leg room in the back
Fuel economy
A good sounding stereo
Affordable insurance
Quiet and reasonably powerful engine
Safety
Good looks
Flexibility (i.e. can take large packages/suitcases etc when necessary)
A make with a strong reputation for reliability
Extra gizmos
Under (preferably considerably under) £10,000
A lot to ask? Yes, but then along came the Honda Jazz?

Who is Ray McVay?
Ray McVay was born in the late 30's in Scotland. He became a professional musician at the tender age of 13 as a rocking sax player. In the 50's he became a music director for many big names such as Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Conway Twitty and Billy Fury.
As Rays name got bigger and better known in the music industry, and fronted his own show band known as the Ray McVay Orchestra. He started to play for the Mecca Organization playing around the country before headlining at Mecca's big venue, the Lyceum Ballroom in London's west end..
