Postage & Packaging: £0.00 Availability: 3-5 working days
Advantages: 18 number 1's! Disadvantages: Some of the tracks are a bit crap
, its a MILES better song.
7. Stupid Girl - Garbage (was #4, 1996)
A nice little rocky anthem that was Shirley Mansons biggest moment in the 90's, little did she know she'd go on to be a Terminator on The Sarah Conner Chronicles.
8. Love Spreads - The Stone Roses (was #2, 1992)
I clearly missed this release by The Roses 1st time around, its got a very country flavour with that steel guitar opening before settling down to a much more typically indie rock tune. It has a real feel of 70's prog too (think "Freebird" by Lynard Skynard).
9. One To Another - The Charlatans (was #3, 1995)
I didn't recognise this until the lyric kicked in, its the one based on a Rolling Stones song. Nice and rocky with that 60's feel, still a cracking good song.
10. Love Is The Law - The Seahorses (was #3, 1997)
I don't think I'd ever heard of this song or band ...
Advantages: wide variety of music, great price Disadvantages: a couple of notable absences
overlooked.
Or so I thought . . .
Then one day in work we realised (while having a random conversation) that there was a whole plethora of new 90s compilation albums out there. Now - okay, we probably ALL own a couple of these from when we actually were IN the nineties . . . but these ones are different because they span the WHOLE 90s, not just a specific few months or one year from within the decade.
After perusing the various options on play.com, I finally settled on100 Hits - 90s. Partly because with 100 songs and 5 CDs for less than a tenner is was pretty damn good value for money, and partly because there were a whole heap of songs on there that made me go "Oh my god, I had forgot ALL ABOUT THAT ONE!"
Most 90s album seem to embrace the dance genre that seemed so damn big at the time and forget that there were other types of music out ...
Advantages: Good value for money, great first disc, brilliant tracks. Disadvantages: Some undeserving hits have been given a place on this album.
of some of the greatest chart hits in the 1990's, both romantic and dance hits, with such love songs as 'Nothing Compares 2 U' by Sinead O'Connor, and 'Can't Help Falling In Love With You' by UB40, and such dance songs as 'Tubthumping' by Chumbawumba, and ' The Power' by Snap. All four of the songs are still constantly played in nightclubs and on the radio. Thank goodness the songs have stayed popular and not dissappeared with Furbys and Tamagotchis!
Disadvantages:
The C.D is brilliant, although I must admit, some of the songs don't deserve to be on the album, and I feel that other songs have made a more lasting impression. For example, 'Sweet Like Chocolate' by Shanks & Bigfoot should have been replaced by a Take That song, or possibly East 17s' 'Stay Another Day', as these bands are still recognised quite a bit, and have had more ...
