Advantages: loads of tracks Disadvantages: some seem quite dated
A six CD box set which showcases a huge selection of tracks from the drum and bass scene.
Drum and bass has gained huge popularity over the years and has gained alot of followers thanks to its breaknecks speeds of drums, bass and sample ridden madness. These tracks show you what is all about and my gosh there is alot of them.
The tracks span right back to the early nineties and some can sound very dated but interesting nether the less. Producers which stand out on the album are the big heavy weights such as 'Dillinja' with his awesome track 'Grimey' with its huge pitch bending bass synth and the unforgettable vocal sample, this one will keep you going till the early hours. Then there is J-magik, with his equally powerful but more jazzy power rhythms.
If your a fan of this hi speed music you will defenitely find this box set ...
Advantages: Varied popular songs plus some obscure ones Disadvantages: The obscure songs are probably not to everyones taste
This is the second CD I have brought from this series, I find these CD's a general overview of the years music relating to well known tracks to some that are unknown to me. This therefore make is a very good album to listen to as you know what you are getting from some of the songs. artists like Sterophonics, Muse, Athlete, The Libertines and so on are well known and will appeal to the majority. There are however some more obscure songs bands like Client, Bees, which although are not to bad for my taste they may not appeal to everyone.
On the whole I have found this to be a good album in my collection and one that I will listen to if I can not make up my mind. If you like the main popular songs on this album then I would recommend to have this in your collection. ...
Advantages: Great Songs You Remember From Films Disadvantages: Dancing The 'Hot Stuff' From 'The Full Monty'!!
? What a fantastic inclusion this song is for the chaps! Despite this being a seemingly cheesy choice, I love the memories of the film this song gives me & whilst I realise it's not a ground breaker of a song, like some of the other tracks on the album, it's one that you can really let yourself go to, have a dance, sing out loud and you don't feel at all out of place doing so.
The song is sadly maybe ONLY famous for it's use in The Full Monty, but it doesn't detract from the fact this is a great seventies disco track, pure, simple and absolutely fantastic and it just isn't at all out of place on the album and considering the genre which we have just hit in the CD I cannot think of a better inclusion from the film.
5. Perfect Day- Lou Reed (Trainspotting)
I did try hard not to include 2 songs by the same artist but I think Lou Reed ...
