Where did the name Eurythmics come from?
A german man named Emiles Jaques-Dalcroze invented a system called Eurhythmics in the 1890's which was a method of musical instruction that emphasised physical response to music.
***************************************************************** Brief History of the Eurythmics
Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart started off in 1979 in the band The Tourists.
The formed the Eurythmics in 1980 and released 8 albums between the 80's and the 90's.
In between these 8 albums, Stewart produced for artists like Tom Petty and Bob Dylan amongst others, Lennox tried her hand at some acting.
For 8 years between 1990-1998 they had hardly any communication between them. Stewart released some solo albums including "Greetings from the Gutter". Lennox released her first solo album in 1992 "DIVA" which sold over 1.2 million copies. They reunited in 1999 and released "Peace".
In 2004 Lennox won the Golden Globe Award and an Oscar for the song from the Lord of the Rings:Return of the King "Into the West".
I've Got a Life (4.05) Love is a Stranger (3.42) Sweet Dreams (are made of this) (3.36) Who's that Girl (3.44) Right by your Side (3.49) Here comes the rain again (4.51) Would I lie to you? All tracks are produced by David a Stewart except Love is a Stranger which was by David A Stewart & Adam Williams and tracks ! Saved the World Today and 17 again were by the Eurythmics.
All the songs on this CD were written by Lennox and Stewart.
There must be an angel (playing with my heart) includes Stevie Wonder playing the Harmonica, and Sisters are doin' it for themselves includes Aretha Franklin on vocals.
If you have never been a Eurythmics fan, I am sure you would enjoy this CD as it has selected the all time greats which everybody is familiar with and which most people sing along with.
If you are a fan, like I was in my younger years, it brings all the memories flooding back and experiences of my youth. most songs trigger off some sort of memory from my past. It is easy listening, can be played in any mood and I just loved it, it was great to be able to buy a more up-to-date remastered collection of one of my favourite groups. Thoroughly enjoyed it and still am, even my 8 year old has taken a liking to them and in this day and age against rivalary like the Pussycat Dolls there is something to be said in that.
Oriced from around £6.99 to £9.00 depending on store I think this is great value for money.
A good review, I'm not a huge fan but occasionally will listen to them... I like the way you section this review off into little parts, makes it really easy to read :) xx
