Ultimate Collection, The - Hank Williams

Advantages: Quality tracks with good variety.
Disadvantages: May not capture the essence of the movie for some people.

...On the Apollo 13 soundtrack, with the original score composed by James Horner, there are a total of fifteen track titles. The CD itself begins with the main, opening title theme track, followed by a dialogue spoken by Walter Cronkite and Neil Armstrong. This introduction is followed by five well-selected individual tracks, all performed by various artists. Then we reenter into the atmosphere of the movie, full of dialogue and even a ten-minute long compositional piece. After approximately fifty percent of the soundtrack has been used on selected segments from the movie, some more songs by Hank Williams and The Mavericks come into play. The CD compilation finishes off with more dialogue by Ed Harris, Gary Sinise, and Tom Hanks, and then two original compositions approximately eight and a half, and six and a half, minutes each... Advantages: great 3 cd boxset with a variewty of great songs from awesome movies!
Disadvantages: hard to find a copy at the moment

...I recently got into listening to classical music and particularly enjoyed music played by a large orchestra as it gave such a great variety and texture of sound. I also really enjoy watching movies, and this cd is really great as it includes some of the best music from the movies that are classical or played by a large orchestra. There are a variety of different song from a load of different great films and composers. This CD comes as a 3 cd set and each CD has over 10 different songs on it. I really enjoyed this great CD and listening to these songs that i have now purchased the Classic Fm at the movies: the sequel box set and the more recent ultimate collection of songs from the movies. I would recommend all 3, but would have to say that this one includes some of the more well known songs and films, but they are of course all... Read review

Advantages: The Magic of Harry Potter captured in music
Disadvantages: At moments can be dark and moody

...tinkling sound of Hedwig's theme in 'Escape from the Dursleys. Dark descending bass-notes and the spindly sound of legs fill 'The Spiders'. The collection builds to a rich and dramatic climax in 'Duelling the Basilisk' as Harry battles with the giant snake. You needn't be a fan of Harry Potter, or even know the story, to appreciate John William's genius. Certain tracks are truly heart-warming. My ultimate favourite track is 'Reunion of Friends' which literally clenches the heart and sums up the original charm of the films, aside from the special effects, the message of good triumphing over evil. 'Fawkes the Phoenix' is another favourite and has a great memorable tune. A criticism may be that some of the songs are quite similar and it is possible to get mixed up between them.
