Advantages: A well-crafted documentary Disadvantages: Uncomfortable subject-matter
On the 30th of July this year Channel 4 showed a one-off documentary about the rise and fall of Paul Gadd, otherwise known as the outrageous rock and roll star GaryGlitter. As I was out of the country for a while in 1997/98 I missed news coverage of his fall from grace, so was interested to snuggle down with hubby on the sofa to find out what all the fuss had been about.
This Diverse North documentary was introduced with a warning: not suitable for the easily upset or offended: oh no methinks, perhaps it is to be more of a roller-coaster than I had initially suspected.
The piece started in the familiar way of charting the early life of young Gadd. Brought up in an orphanage he was unwilling and unable to mix with other kids and seemed only interested in music. Sure enough at the tender age of 13 he had started his own band ...
biggest fans.
Back to the book?.
Firstly the book is quite heavy and indeed very glamorous. It's obvious that the book is of good quality and should last for a very long time unless of course you do something like drop it in the bath! The cover consists of a large photograph of the band. Each girl is wearing a black dress and look very 'glam'. They are surrounded by 'gold glitter' which feels like glitter when you touch it yet I don't really know what it is that makes it feel like this ; it's like glitter , but it's really smooth and doesn't 'fall apart' like normal glitter would. This photo and glitter is then surrounded with a plain black background. On the bottom of the cover it reads in large white capitals ' Girls Aloud' , followed by 'Dreams The Glitter' in a fancy gold font. Below this it says in small, plain , white capitals ...
Advantages: Fun to read, lots of pictures, good quality book Disadvantages: None unless you don't like Girls Aloud
back in 2002, and have outlived pretty much all other reality acts, still going strong in 2008 with 6 albums under their belts, and the girls are starting to branch off into their own careers as well. Girls Aloud are Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle and Sarah Harding, and they have all come together to write this book chronicling their rise to fame entitled Dreams That Glitter.
Before really knowing anything about the book, I thought it was going to be a standard type auto-biography book with a big chunk written by each girl about their childhood, Pop Stars experience and their life in Girls Aloud so far. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I was very wrong when I got the book home. Instead, the book is split up into sections which all the girls contribute to, and there is just a couple of pages ...

Album Notes
Perhaps second to only Freddie Mercury, Gary Glitter was the most flamboyant figure of the early '70s U.K. glam rock movement. With a bouffant hairdo, snazzy clothes, high platform boots, and hairy chest exposed, to the delight of his female fans, Glitter rocked his way to the top of the British charts, enjoying a string of big hit singles. 1998's 16-track compilation, THE ULTIMATE, is a fine introduction to one of glam rock's leading artists. You can't go wrong with such glam standards as "Rock & Roll Pt. 2," "Do You Wanna Touch Me," "I Didn't Know I Loved You," "Doing Alright With the Boys," and "Oh Yes You're Beautiful," which are all included here in their mascara-caked glory.
