The Ultimate CD
The Queen of Pop, aka Kylie Minogue. Love her or loathe her, you have to admit she has staying power. She has been in the music industry for well over 20 years now and has had some amazing pop hits.
Ultimate Kylie was released in 2004 and is the only comprehensive collection of her greatest hits from 1987 to the present day and the only one to feature each of her 31 hit singles. It comes with a very sexy picture of Miss Minogue on the front pouting towards the camera and her hair all tussled. What I love about this album is that it has a great mix of all her old classics and the new ones as well. If you could only buy one Kylie album then this would be the one you would buy to cover all your favourites. Like I’ve said above this album has 31 hit singles, including 7 UK No 1 singles and 25 UK Top 10 singles.
The album contains 2 separate discs. Disc one is what I like to call the old classics, the songs she brought out at the very beginning of her career such as I should be so Lucky, The Locomotion, etc. The Locomotion was the first song that she released in 1987, closely followed by I should be so Lucky. The song was a number one hit in Australia and the UK and became the highest selling single in Australia in 1988 and was named "Record of the Year" by the Japanese Phonographic Record Association.
What I love about this first disc is that you can put it on and literally dance around your living room. All the tunes are upbeat pop hits that take me back to my childhood. Ok, it’s not great musically as the second CD in my opinion has better produced songs and more sophisticated songs but it’s still a great introduction to Kylie.
The rest of the songs on the first CD are as follows:
1. I Should be so Lucky 2. Got to be Certain 3. The Locomotion 4. Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi – this is not all in French, just this line. She is basically saying, I still love you, but I don’t know why 5. Especially for you – this is a duet with Jason Donovan, sickly and sweet but always makes me cry, well sort of! 6. Never Too Late 7. Wouldn’t change a thing 8. Never too Late 9. Tears on my pillow 10. Better the Devil you know 11. Step back in time 12. What do I have to do 13. Shocked 14. Give me just a little more time 15. Celebration
CD 2 – I like to call this Kylie’s return to the pop scene. In 2000, Kylie bought out the song Spinning Around. Before that she had not had a number-one single in Australia since "Confide In Me" in 1994 and in the UK since "Tears on My Pillow" ten years earlier. Spinning Around became a world-wide success, going to number one in the UK and Australia. Spinning Around was actually intended for Paula Abdul’s comeback album as she actually wrote the lyrics but it was given to Kylie and the rest is history. Kylie was back and the rest of this CD includes new songs since her comeback which I feel still follow the same catchy, poptastic songs of old but are more grown up somehow.
The songs included on side 2 are:
1. Confide in Me 2. Put yourself in my place 3. Where the wild roses grow – with Nick Cave 4. Did it again 5. Breathe 6. Spinning Around 7. On a night like this 8. Kids – this is a song with Robbie Williams 9. Please stay 10. Can’t get you out of my head 11. In your eyes 12. Love at first sight 13. Come into my world 14. Slow 15. Red Blooded Woman 16. Chocolate – one of my favourites on this side of the album. Quite a sultry song, singing about love being replaced by chocolate 17. (Can’t start) giving you up 18. I believe in you
A great album for all you Kylie fans out there!
