Full review

This album is marketed as being great for parties and some of the tracks are typical 1970s dance-floor fillers. However, some of the songs are not the best choices that could have been made.

The first track is "You Sexy Thing " by Hot Chocolate. Everyone knows this and it's a great opener. Just make sure nobody tries to strip off!

Following on from this is "More Than A Woman" by Tavares. Ah, a track from "Saturday Night Fever". What 1970s compilation album would be complete without it?

The third song is "That's The Way (I Like It) by KC & The Sunshine Band. Not as good as "Give It Up", which I think just squeezed into the back end of the 1970s but still a decent party tune.

"Movin'" by Bass Construction and "Nut Bush City Limits" by Ike and Tina Turner are next - again, not bad tracks for this kind of album.

The hilarious "Tiger Feet" by Mud is next but the awful "My Sharona" by The Knack spoils things. "You make my motor run"?! Ugh, please! And what sort of name for a band is "The Knack" anyway?

"See My Baby Jive" by Wizzard improves things a little. However, all of their songs sound the same to me. In fact, when I was young, I was convinced they only ever did Christmas songs and I didn't realise their clothes weren't actually fancy dress...

"Some Girls" by Racey is the worst song on this album. Even for the 1970s, it's sexist drivel about how some "girls" (girls?!) will have sex and some won't. Deary, deary me. It's good for dancing to I suppose but only after you've had a few!

The next song "Milk & Alcohol" by Dr Feelgood pretty much speaks for itself. After that it's the chanty "2, 4, 6, 8 Motorway" by Tom Robinson.

Punk lovers get "Hangin' on The Telephone" by Blondie, released before they became a bit more poppy. But after that, the album goes seriously down hill. This does not feel like a "party" album at all.

"King Rocker" by Generation X, "48 Crash" by Suzi Quatro, "Bump", "Touch Too Much" by the Arrows, "Nite Klub" by The Specials and Prince's "Madness" feel and sound like they've just been tacked onto the end with no real thought. And if any Suzi Quatro song should be on an album like this, it's "Can The Can".

This bargain bucket (literally) album costs around £5 but can be found cheaper on the internet. I would recommend it if you like the songs in general but I think some better tracks could have been on it. With 18 songs on, I suppose it's good value though, if you like this sort of thing.
