N-Dubz are a MOBO award-winning trio of London-based musicians. The 2008 release "Uncle B" is the debut album, after a couple of years of street hype. They perform what is said to be a mix of UK Hip Hop and R&B, but is nothing more than "urban Pop" for the youngsters who follow that sort of music.
I haven't enjoyed any of their six singles, and wouldn't considerbuying this, however I did buy it for someone elese, and thought I should share my opinion on it.
Personally, I see no point in looking into individaul tracks since it is all of a geneal poor quality, and any of the tracks share similarities in their arrangement.
The whole thing has the same basic form where Nappy, thefrontman raps in a very simplistic way, and attempts to depict several views on the poor sitation which they are faced with when appartently being brought up around Camden Town, and then the singer of the giroup, Tulisa struggles her way through the songs by comgin up with catchy hookjs and repeating words form nmappy. The other guy, only shows up a couple of times and raps a few bars, but he is just as weak at this as Dappy.
The voice of Dappy really annoyed me, and it was so off-putting that I had to swicth off after a few seconds of each track, and the voice of the amin singer wasn't too strong. With this in mind, there's little driving this group at all.
Most of the tracks have them go into what youngsters conder to be "deep" lyrics. but they are very predicatble in descibing their "ghetto" environment in London. When doing these tracks, they ofen have a slow pace and get Tulisa to sing a silly hook, based around sounds, rather than actual words, andusing the same melody over and over again. Then the rapper Dappy intermixing bars with singing. It has them basically perform Pop as they make the tunes so similar and not have anyting whichc would appeal to people actually living this street lifestyle. The one attempt at this, they go for Grime in ""N-Dubz vs. NAA", but it just doesn't have the production or lyrics to convince anyone that they truely do anything which is said.
All the compositions are completely unoriginal and seemingly take off what they have previous donw,. for instance tow of their singles, "Papa" and "Ouch", being pretty much the same in how they are layed out. I could only say there is a hint of an imroved standard when Chipmnk does a little rap on Defeat you, but its very little.
Since their target audience is the naive young crowd, this is bound to do welll, but in terms of musical quality, it is absolutely terrible and there's no reason I can find to buy it. Basically, just don't give them any attention, they don't deserve it.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
Thanks for the advice, I've heard many rumours about this album, but I have been persuaded with your review that I must not waste money on this album, I was thinking of purchasing it before but instead, I'd rather save up my money and spend it on something else.

This collective is a joke, plain and simple, it's difficult to take them even remotely seriously. x

Advantages: Refreshing combination of singing and rapping, and very good value for money. Disadvantages: It took very long to compile, so how long will it take to make their second?
