Under Siege Film Review

Advantages: Humour; Gary Busey; Tommy-Lee Jones
Disadvantages: Not enough Seagal moments; Short end fight

There are essentially two things required as the basis of a decent action movie: A respectable good guy and a respectable bad guy. Under Siege has both: Steven Seagal as the heroic chef/ex Navy Seal, and Tommy Lee Jones as the psychotic '60s rocker. The latter, along with Gary Busey, seizes control of the ship's nuclear arsenal. The head chef, Casey Ryback, is on board the USS Missouri- a battleship on its final tour of the Pacific, and is preparing dinner for the captain's birthday. The second-in-command (Gary Busey), who has apparently put up with "a lot of his shit", later orders him to clear the area as dinner is now being flown in by helicopter. Ryback refuses and decks the commander, though is restrained and locked in the meat locker, where it would seem he can no longer be of any trouble to the crew. Proceeding this ...

Taking Curious Minds Under Ground

Advantages: Chock full of excellent learning. Well written and superbly illustrated.
Disadvantages: None to speak of.

INTRODUCTION With our second child due in six weeks, my new duties as primary bed-time parent for our four year old have intensified, especially as my wife is flaking out at the end of the day with more and more regularity. In an effort to stop my brain from turning to mush (there?s only so many times you can read ?Bear Hunt?, ?Cat in the Hat? or ?Hungry Caterpillar? before your sanity begins to fray around the edges) I have delved deep into my daughter?s extensive library for new material. A colourful book called ?Under the Ground? caught my eye and I decided to give it a go, for no other reason than it didn?t seem to involve fairies, princesses or energetic cats in fancy headgear. DETAILS ?Under the Ground?, first published in 2006 by Usborne Press (www.usborne.com), is penned by Anna Milbourne and inked by Serena ...

The people under the stairs

Advantages: great comedy and a bit of horror
Disadvantages: none

ugly head and forming what can only be described as a fantastic plot for a movie?.and this movie emphasises the fact brilliantly and almost tastefully. Brandon Adams does a fantastic job as 'Fool', the young lovable character who turns to robbery to help his family. This frightened little boy has to handle every evil thing thrown at him, and what a job he does. His scenes with the Robeson's mad are brilliant but may be upsetting for dog lovers (although no animals were hurt during this filming) The Robeson's are brilliant characters, coming across as a god loving couple who wouldn't harm a fly. Everett McGill, who plays 'dad' Robeson, acts the part to perfection as the gun toting, sadistic god loving weirdo. The Robeson's really bring the saying 'see no evil.. hear no evil.. Speak no evil' to life as The people under the stairs ...
