This is Avril Lavigne's second album and she waited a year from the release of her last song, I'm with you to release this album, under my skin. There is one special song on there that made me cry when I first heard it, as it was so beautiful. There was also a poster that also came with it that is now up on my wall.
I'll start with the cover and design of the CD album. It's red writing, with a picture of avril in her Goth clothes. It's got a grey-black background as well. It's pretty simple, but I think that sometimes, simpler is better. The back has another picture of Avril Lavinge and all the songs in a black font. The background is grey. At the bottom is all the information about the producers and such like. Also the barcode and a playability chart with what the CD can play on. It is able to play on CD home players as well as windows 95+ computers. With Macs and others, it may not be able to play on there.
In this next section, I will explain to you about the songs, how they make me feel and what they are about.
Come and take me away
The first song is called take me away. It was also written by Miss Lavinge herself. This has got to be the rockiest track on the album and is one of my favorites on the album. It's about her feeling confused about a guy who has broken her heart and she doesn't want to go through this or remember this in years to come so she needs someone to come and take her away. She also says that she basically regrets what she never said to him about her love or pain. This would be a good song if you have broken up with someone and are angry about it all.
All the pain I thought I knew All the thoughts lead back to you Back to what was never said Back and forth inside my head I can't handle this confusion I'm unable, come and take me away.
Together
The second song is about her being with a guy, yet every time that they are together, it doesn't feel right, it feels as if they are in two separate worlds, and they need to stop this and break up. She feels better when she's on her own so that's the way it's heading in this relationship. This was written by Avril Lavinge and Chantal Kreviazuk. This songs beat is good and more gothiky pop than rock. This is a good song if you're stuck in a relationship heading nowhere, apart from the bin. I think this song is good, and is a great one to sing along to in karaoke.
When I'm alone I feel so much better And when I'm around you I don't feel
Together It doesn't seem right at all Together Together we've built a wall Together Together holding hands we'll fall Hands we'll fall.
Don't tell me
This was her first comeback single after one year of not being around and hit the top 40 charts. It's about being treated right by a guy….until they get to the bedroom. All she wanted is to talk about life, and he had other things on his mind and started pressuring her into doing things that she didn't want to do. She then finds her courage and tells him to leave and get away from her because she's stronger than that. This is a great song for teenagers in relationships that are starting to go too far and them not wanting it to go any further. This is written by Avril Lavinge.
Did you think that I was gonna give it up to you - This time Did you think that there was something I was gonna do - And cry Don't try to tell me what to do Don't trey to tell me what to say You're better off that way, yeah
He wasn't
He wasn't is all about another guy who she had built up in her mind about how great he was, and yet after going out with him a few times, he ends up not being what she thought he was. She had built him up to be great and everything she dreams of, yet he doesn't return her calls and it makes her nervous waiting around for him all the time. This is a great song for people who think that their relationship is mainly all one way and you are starting to hate being that one person in the relationship. This song is written by Avril Lavinge and Chantal Kreviazuk
He wasn't what I wanted What I thought, no He wouldn't even open up the door, He never made me feel like I was special, He isn't really what I'm looking for.
How does it feel
This is a song written by Avril Lavinge and Chantal Kreviazuk, and their trying to get their thoughts across that everyone wishes that they were someone else at some point in their life. They want to feel how it feels to be someone else and would they like it if they had your life. This is a great song if you're at an all-time low and feel like you want to be someone else. This is a slower song on the album.
How does it feel to be Different from me Are we the same How does it feel to be different from me Are we the same How does it feel
My happy ending
This was Avril lavigne's second single and it hit the charts in the top ten. I remember this song really well, because this was one of the only songs that everyone knew on camp and although this isn't my favourite song on the album, it is still a really fab song. It's about breaking up with someone when really, you don't want to. He's saying to her that they shouldn't be together, when inside she's crying a river of tears. She blames it on the fact that his friends have been saying stuff to him that has made him change his mind about her. I've had experience that this does actually happen sometimes. In year eight, a guy listened to his mates and dumped me because they made up a lot of stuff about me. This song would be good for people going through a break up when they don't want to. This was a great song written by Avril Lavinge and Butch Walker.
You were everything, everything That I wanted We were meant to be, supposed to be But we lost All of our memories so close me Just fade away All this time you were pretending So much for my happy ending
Nobody's home
Imagine you are alone on the streets, a broken home, you are a teenager in distress, you feel as if the whole world is against you, that you can't turn back, that even your parents don't love you. Well, this is exactly what this song is about. A girl alone on the streets that feels as if she can't turn back and go home, no matter how much she wants to. This is a great song when you feel as if the world is against you and you feel like leaving home. This was superbly written by Avril Lavinge as if she was the girl herself. This is more of an upbeat song and I think it's got a great tune.
She wants to go home But nobody's home That's where she lies Broken inside With no place to go No place to go To dry her eyes Broken inside
Forgotten
This song again has been written by Avril Lavinge and Chantal Kreviazuk and is a more rock - pop track. It starts off slow and with a steady beat, then gets faster. This song has more drums in than most of the others. It's about feeling as if you want to give up everything in life, all because of one love that has made you the one left out, that you don't matter and as if you don't count in this world. You have been treated this way for so long, that it has become part of your routine and you can't take it anymore. This is another great song for when you're in a relationship and you're the one who comes second, not first in the relationship.
Have you forgotten Everything that I wanted Do you forget it now That I never got it Do you get now Do you get it now.
Who knows
Imagine you are in a club, bar or shopping centre and you meet this one person that you have a feeling you have seen before, but you're not sure. Imagine this person looks like everything you've ever dreamed of. Well, in this song that Avril Lavinge and Chantal Kreviazuk have written, they are trying to explain that life is short, so no matter who you think people are, go for the chances in life because you might not get them again. This is a great song for when you wake up in a great mood and want to live life to the fullest. This is a pop type of song, and reminds me of some of the stuff that busted have done, but it isn't as cheesy though!
I think there's something more Life's worth living for
Who knows what could happen Do what you do Just keep on laughing One thing's true There's always a brand new day I'm gonna live today like it's my last day.
Fall to pieces
This is a heartbreaking song written brilliantly by Avril Lavinge and Raine Maida. You're in the park or in your house and your partner turns to you and says, I don't want to be with you anymore. What would be your first reaction, cry, yell, shout, scream or fall to pieces and run out of the room trying your hardest to stay strong for yourself? Well, avril in this song is trying to say that in break up's, you can try your best to stay strong when things like this happens, but it's really hard to do. If you are going through a breakup that you're in love with the other partner and don't want to break up, then this is the song for you. It's a slower song on the album and the main instrument on this track is the guitar.
I don't want to fall to pieces I just want to sit and stare at you I don't want to talk about it I don't want a conversation I just want to cry in front of you I don't want to talk about it Cause I'm in love with you
Freak out
This is a pop but really upbeat song and is great for anyone who doesn't follow the crowd, doesn't really listen to the crap that people give them about their image, personality or even what they are doing wrong. Avril Lavinge is trying to say that, it doesn't matter what people tell you, or think of you, as long as you stand up for yourself and be true to yourself and others (and believe in yourself) then you'll be fine and get by in life pretty well.
I'm gonna live my life I don't ever run and hide I won't compromise 'Cause I'll never know I'm gonna close my eyes I can't watch the time go by I won't keep it inside Freak out let it go, Just freak out let it go
Slipped away
It says in the booklet that Avril Lavinge and Chantal Kreviazuk wrote this in loving memory of Avril's grandpa who passed away. This is a slow and sad song that brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. This is what could help you through bereavements of a loved one and I love the lyrics in this song. There is mainly three instruments in this track, the guitar, piano and drums. She is trying to say in this song that she wishes that she could be with him, and that he should be here, and why did he go. This is by far my favourite track as it reminds me of loved ones who have passed away, and the rhythm, beat and melody as well as the lyrics are fantastic.
The day you slipped away Was the day that I found It won't be the same Oh
(The last verse which is the best) I've had my wake up Won't you wake up I keep asking why I can't take it It wasn't fake It happened you passed by.
I always get my way (bonus track)
Now this was on princess diaries two - which by the way I watched most of today, but couldn't see the end because Rach's DVD was scratched and kept stopping in one place, but anyway, this song is all about getting what you want and not letting anyone stopping you from getting it. This is a great song for spoilt brats (sorry peeps), but also people who live in fairyland or dreamland and would love everything and anything. The beat and rhythm is ore upbeat and pop/ R n B.
Get me what I want everything that I got Get me what I want Cause I'm a big shot
Altogether, I would rate this album as a huge hit in my books. I love Avril Lavinge, I love her song and if you are a fan of hers in anyway, you will love this album as well! It's got the right amount of rock and pop. Then it also has the right amount of softer and harder songs to suit each mood you are in. if I had to rate this album out of ten, I would say a 9 and a half, because as much as the cover was a rock/Goth cover, it could have done with a bit more jazzing up. Other than that, it was a great album to buy and I've really enjoyed listening to it.
Tesco - £9.98 Asda - £9.99 E-bay - prices start from 99p to as much as £5.00 when I looked today. Amazon.co.uk - prices start from £6.49 new and used to £9.99 brand new.
I hope you have enjoyed this review and remember, Avril Lavinge may rock, but so do you.

Bit About Each Song

“Under My Skin” is instantly likeable even if you enjoyed her first album and considering her second album is rather different from the first. Her second released single from “Under My Skin” is called “My Happy Ending”. ... ...boyfriend and her world has started to collapse around her. The song starts off by her asking what she did, was it something she had said, was it something she had caused. “You were all the things I thought I knew and I thought we could be….you were everything that I thought I wanted, we were meant to be, supposed to be, but we lost it….” I think that both of her albums are related to break-ups and just the end of relationships in general. It’s not ...

Advantages: a deeper insight into the world of a true pop-rock sensation.... Disadvantages: sometimes scratchy lyrics, the odd 'bad' moment
...Go', Avril Lavigne has been under constant scrutiny from almost everybody and anybody - there's the 'she's not punk' brigade, there's the 'look at that poser' brigade, and then there's the ones that just talk utter cr*p - but not yet has it got her down. See, our Avril is made of tougher stuff than her critics would care to understand, and when considered the stream of emotion that flows through both her debut 'Let Go' and it's predecessor, 2004's ... ...in mind when listening to Under My Skin, is that Avril was only 19 at the time of release, and therefore still suffering the torments of any typical teenager of her age…..except she had the added pressure of the worlds media following her every move at will. The record itself gets deeper into Avril's world, exploring places that 'Let Go' dared to venture - there's the realisation of a doomed relationship in 'Together', the lonesome journey of 'Nobody's ...

Advantages: A brilliant second album, much more grown up Disadvantages: So radically different from her first album, it might drive away some of her fans
...come to her second album, Under My Skin. On first listen, I couldn't stand many of the tracks. Not because they were rubbish, but because they were so radically different from anything Let Go had to offer. I was wondering if the woman singing on these tracks is the same angsty teenager who sang 'Sk8er Boi' and 'Complicated'. Let me put it this way: if you're expecting Let Go: Part 2, you are in for a great shock.
Because Under My Skin represents ... ...depth of her songwriting on Under My Skin reflects that.
Her current single, 'Don't Tell Me', doesn't quite reflect that transition, even though it's a great first single and a great track, and shows she's done work on improving her voice, which was limited on her first album. The next single off the album, 'My Happy Ending', does more to reflect the transition - it's like a more insightful, mature version of 'Losing Grip' from Let Go.

Advantages: infectious, upbeat, fun Disadvantages: there'll be no slitting your wrists to this one...
Things have certainly changed for Canadian rocker AvrilLavigne since 2004's sophomore effort UnderMySkin. Where that album portrayed a petulant, pre-marriage Avril on angst overload - she moaned about boys, boys and, well, boys - latest disc The Best Damn Thing doesn't so much as moan about boys, rather it showcases Lavigne in a far feistier mood, kicking their asses and taking names respectively.
It's a direction best offset by lead single Girlfriend, a swaggering, bitchy empowerment anthem that sees bad Avril tangle with her distinctly more geeky counterpart ('cause she's 'like, so whatever') for the affections of her current squeeze. It's confident, though at times complacently arrogant lyrics typify the standpoint Lavigne's taken as regards The Best Damn Thing. It's an assured, though not entirely fulfilling, set of songs ...
Advantages: Only the best album of 2004 Disadvantages: Making a fool of yourself when dancing to it
I have to say, Franz Ferdinand's self-titled album is definetely, in my opinion, without a doubt, hands down, THE best album of 2004. Not even Usher's Confessions, AvrilLavigne's UnderMySkin(well, hardly any competition here), Alanis Morisette's So Called Chaos, Ash's Meltdown, Keane's Hopes and Fears, Snow Patrol's Final Straw and even Scissor Sister's self-tited album(although VERY close) are good enough to beat Franz Ferdinand's debut album. It is too good to put down(or take out of your stereo) and too fun to not dance to(and look like an idiot) that anyone who doesn't own this album should be ashamed. But I've had friends who HATE HATE HATE Franz Ferdinand and friends who love their CD to death, so I guess you can either love it or hate it.
I first heard Franz Ferdinand's music on MTV, their video of Take Me Out was original ...

Album Notes
While Avril Lavigne's 2002 debut, LET GO, arrived amidst a tidal wave of teen female performers, the 17-year-old Canadian singer/songwriter managed to distinguish herself with a punk-rock attitude tempered by a hooky pop sensibility. Lavigne's sound reached a remarkably wide audience, even inspiring indie-rock icon Liz Phair to openly pattern her next record after it. With her 2004 follow-up, UNDER MY SKIN, Lavigne makes it clear which side of the pop-rock precipice she's standing on. Instead of pop producers such as the Matrix, Lavigne aligns herself with Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida and Linkin Park producer Don Gilmore. The result is a much more complex record--an angst-ridden, soul-searching album that rocks with fury without losing a keen ear for melody. This is clear from the outset with the brooding, lushly orchestrated, guitar-driven opening track "Take Me Away." However, while the music has significantly matured, Lavigne's lyrics still possess the same sense of teenage confusion and frustration so charming on her debut. UNDER MY SKIN is an impressive step for the young songwriter, and it effectively transcends the teen-pop label she inevitably received with her first record.
