Advantages: Thought provoking Disadvantages: Some sections will need a double take
books on their subject matter which will hold appeal both to the student of economics and the casual reader alike, both of whom must have an enquiring mind and a desire to understand why certain things happen.
Tim Harford has an impressive CV, he presented the excellent "Trust Me, I'm an Economist" which aired on BBC2 and also writes for the Financial Times under his moniker "The Undercover Economist" as well as a problem style column called "Dear Economist" which is very amusing and insightful. The nearest comparison to his work I have come across is contained in the book Freakonomics by the American economist Stephen Levitt and indeed both tackle some tough propositions however for me Harford book is less superficial and less reliant on endless statistical analysis or rather the explanation of it.
What you do get with this book is ...
Advantages: A nice addition to an avid fan's collection. Disadvantages: A little boring.
It seems that when most famous rock stars get to a certain point in their career they find it necessary to delve into the realm of releasing cover versions. It's not that Ozzy's done anything particularly horrific here- though the wailing of his daughter Kelly on "Changes" is something which I don't want to have to subject my ears to again any time soon-.Ozzy has just remade some of his favourite tracks and shoved them all on a CD in exchange for our money instead of making a new album full of original tracks. Never mind.
His vocals very much suit the John Lennon tracks and these songs are pleasant on the ears but nothing special. Fans of Ozzy will enjoy this, other people may just feel disappointed he didn't invest his time into making something more memorable considering his current level of media exposure. ...
Advantages: Very easy read, funny although I don't think it was meant to be! Disadvantages: A really interesting premise which could have been fantastic, unbelievable at times, insensitive
I regularly buy books from Amazon, and love the feature that recommends books you may like based on your recent purchases. Browsing through this section I have found some great books. This was one of the books Amazon thought I might like, though I'm not sure which book bought led them to this assumption.

Album Notes
UNDER THE COVERS is a collection of songs originally recorded by the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Clash, Sonny & Cher, Johnny Horton and others. It contains a hidden track, "T For Texas." Personnel includes: Dwight Yoakam (vocals, acoustic guitar); Sheryl Crow (vocals); Dean Parks (acoustic guitar); Pete Anderson (electric, baritone & 12-string guitars, electric sitar); Tom Brumley (pedal steel, lap steel); Ralph Stanley (banjo, background vocals); Scott Joss (mandolin, fiddle); Tom Peterson, Bruce Eskovitz (flute, alto, tenor & baritone saxophones); Earl Lon Price (tenor saxophone); Greg Smith (baritone saxophone); Lee Thornburg, Chris Tedesco (trumpet); Eric Jorgensen, Nick Lane (trombone); Skip Edwards (Hammond B-3 organ, keyboards); Charles Domanico (acoustic bass); Taras Prodaniuk (acoustic & electric basses); Jim Christie, Jeff Donovan (drums); Alex Neciosup-Acuna, Tempo (percussion); Ralph Forbes, Dusty Wakeman (drum programming); Tommy Funderburk, Beth Andersen, Anthony Crawford, The Lonesome Strangers (background vocals). UNDER THE COVERS was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Country Album. Yoakam takes a break from making Nashville safe for sophisticated songcraft, putting down his pen and letting his hair down on this album of songs made famous by other performers. Though many of Yoakam's choices were popularized by artists firmly ensconced in the baby boomer canon (The Beatles' "Things We Said Today," Van Morrison's "Here Comes The Night"); he ventures further afield on a couple of tracks, and the element of surprise works to his advantage. Yoakam's reworking of the Clash's "Train In Vain" as a bluegrass lament is nothing short of inspired. Elsewhere, he dips deep into the Roger Miller catalog (never a bad idea) and comes up with "Playboy." Star-spotters will be entranced by his duet with Sheryl Crow on the Sonny & Cher chestnut "Baby Don't Go," while hardcore country enthusiasts will be more impressed by the hidden track at disc's end, a loving resurrection of Jimmie Rodgers' "T For Texas."
