Advantages: One of the best 'electronic' albums ever Disadvantages: It is somewhat short
five minutes have gentle subtle harmonies playing with bright synth sounds. I have heard this part used on nature programmes to accompany underwater scenes, which it does splendidly. Finally a lonely mellotron flute sound concludes the album on a sombre note.
Overall the music on this album is quite remarkable especially if you consider the equipment available in 1975. Don't expect tunes or simple backing beats as this is more of a free flowing soundscape. It may be only 35 minutes in length, but it is possibly the best 35 minutes of TangerineDream's lengthy career and certainly one of the finest electronic albums of the 1970s. Although it is sometimes categorised as such, it is not really "new age" as there are dark eerie moments and not quite "ambient" as there are some lively driving near-rock moments.
Highly recommended ...
Let me tell you about the lovely village of Port Sunlight on the Wirral.
History
Port Sunlight is a garden village which was founded in 1888 by William Hesketh Lever to house his soap factory workers. This came about as in 1887 William Lever began to look for a new site for his soap making factory as they had outgrown their premises in Warrington on the banks of the River Mersey. The site needed to be near to a river for importing material and had to have enough land to allow for further expansion. There also needed to be near a railway line to be able to transport finished goods.
Port Sunlight was built based on Lever's ideas on prosperity-sharing with the building maintenance and upkeep of the village was subsidised with a portion of the profits from the Lever factory. Lever helped to plan this beautiful garden ...
Advantages: Good solid Tangerine Dream music Disadvantages: Quite quite their best
over here. If you're in Europe right now you would see that all people talk about the Third World War. As musicians we can use our music to say something about the positive side and hope our message gets through."
Edgar Froese had organised thousands of copies of Exit to be shipped and distributed free to various people in Russia. A short time before Exit was released; TangerineDream had played a special disarmament concert at the Reichstag building in West Berlin in front of around 100,000 people.
* The tracks *
As mentioned before, the first is a beautiful track called ?Kiew Mission?. A female sensually recites the message of world peace and nuclear disarmament. Very convincing, although the lyrics are in Russian, the mentioning the continents give a good effect. It?s essentially a simplistic, yet universally understandable ...

Album Notes
Tangerine Dream: Edgar Froese, Chris Franke, Paul Haslinger. Recorded at The Dream Studios, Berlin, Germany. Includes liner notes by Jonathan Miller. UNDERWATER SUNLIGHT is the second Tangerine Dream record with a clearly defined central theme-in this case, the ocean. (Their first concept album was the studio predecessor, LE PARC). One may speculate that the band's concurrent and successful soundtrack work inspired their newfound interest in making cinematic records. The song cycle opens with the two-part meditation "Song of the Whale," featuring digitally-produced "acoustic" guitars. This epic captures the feeling of the sun rising over the sea, the play of waves over the sand, and the gentle rollicking and deep moan of the eponymous mammal. Each of the succeeding tracks recreates an element of the hydrosphere: dancing dolphins, manta rays, scuba diving. Perhaps the most impressive track is the closing "Underwater Twilight," wherein lulling synths create the effect of sun-dappled waters, eventually giving way to an urgent, roiling tide. If you can't get to the beach, UNDERWATER SUNLIGHT will take you there.
