...Tales of the Unexpected was published way back in 1979. All 16 of the short stories included were were written for magazines until they were packed together in one very good book.
I don't read short stories. I find that in the majority of cases they are either lacking in the necessary details or they are crammed to the brink with too many details which make it difficult to understand the ending! Hard to please I know. So basically the only reason why I even bothered to read this book was because of the author. Namely, one of my favourites!

REVIEW OF THE 2006 EDITION, HARDBACK, 509pp
Published by Hodder & Stoughton, 'The Book of Fate' is Meltzer's sixth novel. Focussing on the character of Wes Holloway, a former presidential aide still on the staff of the ex-president, the book is based largely in Florida and follows Wes from an incident that permanently disfigured his face eight years previous.
The first line of the book, 'Six minutes from now, one of us would be dead' takes the reader straight into the action at a fast pace, and you are thrown into a world of politics and subterfuge from the word go.
Holloway suffered his injury after an attempt on the life of his boss, President Leland Manning in which he was caught in the crossfire, and one of the President's friends, Ron Boyle, was killed.

Advantages: A pleasant change to the usual magazines. Disadvantages: How do we know any of it's real?
...While I am not a huge magazine reader I often find myself browsing the shelves during my supermarket trips and looking for something to read, often tired of the usual celeb filled options I'll sometimes pick up Take A Break Fate & Fortune for a little something different. It's certainly not a magazine for everybody, in fact for some it contains many subjects they may disapprove of such as mediumship(talking with the dead) Psychics and magic. While I am skeptical of the existence of such abilities I find it fascinating to read about and I'm sure we'd all like to hope that there is some form of afterlife where we can see our loved ones again.
Fate and Fortune is a spin off from the standard Take a break magazine which features real life stories, letters, competitions etc. It comes out monthly and costs £1.60, a lot of the content is...
