Listening to this album for the first time was quite a surprise. A long-time fan of the band, I was all geared up and ready to listen to their trademark sounds of high-flying and fast paced power metal. I was surprised however, to hear the band take quite a leap into the depths of more orchestrated, melodic sounds while experimenting with more vocals and bigger, more expansive music.
While previous albums have been more shocking and in some ways aggressive, capturing your attention immediately and plunging the listener into fast paced drums, heavy guitar riffs and growls of singing. Unia takes more of a relaxed pace, taking you hand-in-hand through it's tracks and gently guiding you through.
You will not get instant gratification with this album, but give it a chance and a few more listens and you'll certainly reap the rewards. Excellent production value and an almost dream-like quality to the songs, Unia is something that deserves to be listened to more than once.
