Recorded in November 1993, this legendary MTV session showed a side to nirvana that many critics thought they never had - a mellow yet still powerful side. Teaming up with the melvins for 4 of the covers : Both the nirvana and cover songs show a totally new side to nirvana's music. The cover of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World" is in my opinion the best song on the album. But thats not taking anything away from the other songs. Great performances of 'Come as you Are', 'About a Girl' and 'Polly' make this album a timeless classic. The Melvins do 4 of their songs and they fit in almost seemlessly with the nirvana songs. 'Lake of Fire' in particulary stands out as a very good song which for some reason or another did not really make it into the mainstream on its release way back in 1984. The album flows very well, with the small bits of talking amongst the band in between the songs gives a small insight into the life of nirvana. It is a great album, be it for the avid nirvana fan or for someone who is new to this genre and wants to ease their way in. Either way, it is an absoleutly superb live album and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
