MTV Unplugged in New York is a live album by the American grunge band, Nirvana. It was released in November 1994.
featuring covers of songs by the Vaselines, David Bowie and the Meat Puppets, and Leadbelly"

The CD includes songs that were not included on the live TV session! Which is a bonus! very different to all Nirvanas heavy stuff on the rest of the albums but theres some fantastic redemptions!

Tracks:-

1. About A Girl - A very simple but effective song! Its like the nursery rhymes when you a kid so simple but yet forever rememberer! A great song to open the set with!

2. Come As You Are - Acoustic but somehow they still seem to have that amazing underwater effect to the version on Nevermind! This one always impresses me!

3. Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam - A redemption of a christian song I think but Nirvana do this the "vaseline's" way as Kurt puts it!

4. The Man Who Sold The World - A David Bowie tune if I remember correctly! The open riff is the same although the tune carried out in kurt cobains very husky voice adds the effect and variation it needs!

5. Pennyroyal Tea - Taken from the "In Utero" album being maybe one of Nirvanas heavy albums, wow, this was toned down but still has that great effect it did on there! Always makes me churn a little that as pennyroyal tea is what they use to give to women after having an abortion! The lyrics make me cringe a little! sit and drink pennyroyal tea... distill the life thats inside of me! maybe not one for the kids!

6. Dumb - Another simple but great Nirvana tune, effective but I always seem to skip this one! each to their own I supppose!

7. Polly - A dark and twisted tale of rape, fantastic how they have masqued it together as a band, im sure dave grohal plays double bass on that or it could be Krist Novoselic! hmm!

8. On A Plain - This song is one to put on whenever any dumps you, I'm sure its written intentially for that, and have a feeling that thats how kurt was feeling when he wrote it! Well hence the lyrics "Love myself I'm better that You!" suppose its third person narrative!

9. Something In The Way - This rural and suburban tune was written about a period of time during kurt was young and homeless, and slept under the street bridge in his hometown of Aberdeen, Washington at night.

10. Plateau - A Meat puppets cover but one of my favourite on the album, i got my whole family singing along to this! ;-) catchy!

11. Oh Me - Another cover but not a great fan! think its a little to slow to be honest! I like songs that move around and have variation!

12. Lake Of Fire - My younger brother was screaming his lungs out to this tune the other day! The lyrics are fantastic, and ok its another cover I think by The Meat Puppets, but kurts grindy voice makes the lyrics amplify to another place in the heart!

13. All Apologies - Good tune defined by the mood and atmosphere! I love the fade out on this song, all in all its all we are! So true so true!

14. Where Did You Sleep Last Night - god how many people have covered this orginally by Led Belly, which I heard for the first time a few days back and wow how Kurt made this sound maybe even better! The orginal sounds like a country and western tune and you could never imigane really Nirvana covering this, but are well they did and how it worked! Other bands to cover were Bob Dylan, the Pleazers, The Greatful Dead, and Mark Lanegan!

Another great thing to come out of Nirvana is the Foo Fighters why not try checking out one of there albums, if you like Nirvana then Fighters will blow your mind to! ;-) "Times Like These" find an album with that on! just for reference!

Im going to cut it short there dont want it to drag out, its an amazing album, if you don't like at least 3/4 of the album i'd eat my hat! I mean which band goes such a long time ago but still manages to sell hundreds of these records!

its a must own CD to the collction!

HMV - £4.99, Make sure you get the carboard cover sleeve, thats the main one, the paper one looks naff thats all and with such an awesome CD like the above well heck you wanna keep it in prestine condition! ;-)

Thanx for reading,

Luke
