...The Music This is the first of two albums of Schubert’s Lieder composed for piano and voice. Schubert composed the music to the work of such classical poets including, Goethe, Collins and Shakespeare. Each Lied tells a story of its own. The lyrics are sung in German but a translation is included in the cover. I won't give a track by track listing of the CD as this is easily available but will mention some of my personal favourites. 1. Lieder: Die Forelle: The Trout (Schubert) A playful a cheerful tale of a trout's journey through a stream. Most people will know and love Schubert's piano quintet also entitled The Trout. 5. Lieder: Heidenröslein: Wild Rose (Goethe) A serious ode to the beauty of the wild rose. 6. A Bonney wee lassy!
Review of (The) Radiant Voice of Barbara Bonney by bubblegum_princess

Advantages: Bonney's gorgeous voice; intelligent singing; great selection of songs
Disadvantages: No translations included

...perfectly captures the rapt stillness that characterises this song. Bonney has the ability to ‘colour’ different words in different ways, illustrating why her voice suits the German lieder genre so well. It’s just a shame more lieder isn’t included on this album! This is immediately followed by Greig’s ‘Solveig’s Song’ from Peer Gynt. This much-performed song has a rich and weighty orchestral accompaniment and Bonney’s lyrical voice has a haunting tone and simplicity which lends itself perfectly to the sad character of Solveig. I was surprised at Bonney’s success with the two Sibelius songs, initially fearing that they would be too ‘big’ for her voice, but she has a striking expressiveness here and the gorgeous virtuoso piano accompaniment by Antonio Pappano reinforces... Advantages: The Beatles
Disadvantages: None

...this song, the rythm is not the usual rock and roll bands rythm, and also, this two voices together are lovely, and very well sung. It says they were inspired by Astrid Kirchher, who had been mourning Stuart Sutcliffe's death. This was one of the songs which the Beatles performed regulary in concert, with Paul announcing "and now for something different..." (this was before the Monthy Python's TV show, lol). Rate: 10/10 4. Rock and roll music: Main composer: Chuck Berry, singer: Lennon. This song was a hit in 1957, by Berry, one of Lennon's idols, and the Beatles included it in their repertoire in the early 60's (the 'cavern' and all that). A clasic rock and roll song very fast, with Lennon singing it with his special sort of voice.
