million copies, it was the most successful album ever by a solo female artist. So this time she's really thinking big: Up! comes as a double-CD, CD1 being a 19-track "pop" album and CD2 containing "world music" versions of the same songs ("country" versions are available free on her official Web site). All of Shania's trademarks are here once more: the positivism, the feminist self-empowerment, the comic put-downs, the yearning love songs. And there's all the trademarks of her husband/producer Mutt Lange, too: the staccato Foreigner keyboards, the chugging Cars guitar, the Def Leppard stomp. With the Langes now residing in Switzerland, the "pop" version has an evident European bent. Check out the Spanish-stylings of "Juanita", the German cabaret feel of "Ka-Ching!", the Roxette-touched title track and "C'est La Vie", which sounds like Abba performing "Manic Monday". The "world music" version, meanwhile, introduces Carib clatterings and sweeping disco effects that often seem cheesy and inappropriate. Nashville purists will, naturally, weep into their bourbon, but then don't they always? The "pop" version of Up! will surely be another colossal success. --Dominic Wills

Nashville Tennessee. The show is truly up close and personal with Shania warmly talking about the songs she has written and performs what inspired them and what they mean to her. Twain performs a selection of songs from her latest hit CD UP! which has sold over one million copies in Canada as well as a selection of recent and early smash hits. Shania Twain 'Up Close and Personal' features guests Alison Krauss and Union Station who backup Shania on this special. The show will also hold a few surprises for the audience.
Advantages: Two for One, Catchy Tunes Disadvantages: None
...From the moment ShaniaTwain made her way onto the radio, I have been a big fan, and her album, Up! has not disappointed me. It all starts with the album cover and her sassy, playful, photo. Its very simple, yet striking.
I can't say that any song on this album is an instant classic, however, it is filled with incredible melodies, lyrics, and emotion.
The first track is "Up!" This song sets the tone for the rest of the album with it's energy, and as the lyrics suggest....."There's nowhere but up from here."
"I'm Gonna Getcha Good" is a song that shows her sassy side. A demonstration of woman power. "Don't want you for the weekend. Don't want you for a night. I'm only interested, if I can have you for life."......My thoughts exactly!
Some other favorite songs of mine include: "Forever and For Always", a song which...

Advantages: Amazing songs. Disadvantages: Doesn't include single version of God Bless The Child
...When Shania first arrived in Nashville she ran into alot of problems. First of all, Shania is a writer and her record company wouldn't let her write her own songs, second of all, Shania appeared to be to opinionated for Nashvilles taste. Shania truly thought she'd never make it, until she met 'Mutt' Lange, legendary producer of great acts such as Bryan Adams and AC/DC. When Shania and 'Mutt' met all the pieces finally formed and she was saved.
The Woman In Me is the first album Twain and Lange wrote together, and is the album that they fell in love making.
This is Shania's second album, her debut was a Nashville record but this one, Shania says, is all her. Shania has put her heart and soul into this record, and it shows.
Unlike Shania's later albums, The Woman In Me consists mainly of ballads.

Advantages: Fantasic and original music. Disadvantages: None.
...ShaniaTwain endured much hardship as a child. She had her first musical experience when she was just 8 years old, her mother would wake her up in the middle of the night and take her to sing in bars when they stopped serving alcohol. Shania's mother suffered from depression, her nor her husband had enough money to feed their children proparly so Shania often found herself going to school with mustard sandwiches for lunch.
Shania's parents died in a vicious car crash when she was just 21 years old, leaving her to take up the parental role in her household and provide for her 3 younger siblings. This bad luck would detare anyone from their ambitions, but not Shania, to support her family Shania sold their home and moved to the Deerhurst Resort where she performed as an on stage artist.
When her 2 youngest sibling were old enough to move...
