Album Reviews: Alternative Press (2/00, pp.77-8) - 3 out of 5 - "Here's a marriage made in avant-garde heaven....With [Eugene] Chadbourne absolutely freaking out on his guitar and the steady support of the faithful young Campers, [the album] gives a good idea what all the fuss was about in the first place."
Album Notes: Full title: Used Record Pile: Collaborations Of Eugene Chadbourne & Camper Van Beethoven 1987-1991. USED RECORD PILE is a compilation culled from the albums CAMPER VAN CHADBOURNE, THE EDDIE CHATTERBOX DOUBLE TRIO LOVE ALBUM & EUGENE CHADBOURNE'S 69th SYMPHONY LIVE, as well as previously unreleased recordings. Personnel includes: Eugene Chadbourne (vocals, guitar, banjo); David Lowrey (vocals); Jonathan Segal (mandolin, violin); Bruce Ackley (soprano saxophone); Graham Connah (keyboards); Victor Krummenacher (bass); Chris Pedersen (drums). To some, it might seem an odd match-up: the zany, political avant-garde guitarist Eugene Chadbourne teaming up with quirky alternative rockers Camper Van Beethoven. As it turns out, the marriage makes for some wonderful results. Both parties bring eclectic musical leanings and a sense of daffy irreverence to the mix. If you're looking for slickness, forget it; these cats make music with the rough edges intact. Among the cover tunes they affectionately skewer are King Crimson's "I Talk to the Wind," The Byrds' "Ballad of Easy Rider," and the country standard "There Stands the Glass." Comparisons can be made to Spike Jones and pre-1980 Frank Zappa--there's even a medley of early Zappa pieces here. Chadbourne continues his humorous assaults on US politics, with "Ollie's Playhouse" and "They Can Make it Rain Bombs." If you're tired of contemporary music that sounds too safe and predictable, USED RECORD PILE is the cure.
Advantages: good quality, popular character Disadvantages: top comes off very easily
...I bought the peppa pig campervan for my three year old son at christmas. He had been going on about it for months and by the time I got round to buying it they were out of stock in a lot of the shops so I started to panic as this was obviously one of the 'must have' toys this year. Luckily I got one in woolworths for £19.99!
On christmas morning he was over the moon when he opened it so that was worth the £19.99 for a start. When it came to opening it, it was not easy! As with many toys theres loads of cardboard, sellotape and plastic ties, it probably took about half an hour to get out of the packaging!
The set comprises of the campervan (the top comes off) with fully functional awning. This is operated with a dial at the side of the roof. The other bits are the figures: peppa, george, mummy pig and daddy pig, a little...

Advantages: All items fit nicely into the boot of the camper van, good for storage. Disadvantages: Toy is difficult to get out of box
...removable chairs inside the van, which can be used as benches with the picnic table, which I thought was a clever idea. There are moulds for each character in the seats so that they are more stable when sitting in the vehicle.
In the box you get a:
Campervan
BBQ
Picnic table
Chairs (from the van)
Shower
Fridge
as well as the characters:
Mummy Pig
Daddy Pig
Peppa Pig
George Pig
In the roof of the campervan is a retractable awning, which can be easily used.
Age suitability is 3 years and above.
You don't need batteries for this toy.
We paid just under £20 for this toy. I would say for what you get it is good value for money. But I know my son, eventhough he likes Peppa Pig, wouldn't play with it unless of the campervan itself! So compared with the other Peppa Pig toys we have had I'd say this one was the best value for money....

Advantages: Couple of vibrant tracks, a mainstream route for punk, Disadvantages: Inconsistent, struggles to compete with earlier releases in places
...have punk roots as did alot of the music I discovered at that time but they are individual in the fact that they have a very pop-friendly and melodic style of music that although they use guitars, bass and drums like most other rock bands, they at times have very delicate vocals and emotional lyrics or tepid and harmonious tunes to the songs which make some tracks a lot more accessible to a wide audience.
'The Feel Good Record Of The Year' is not what I expect this album to be, the band have a tendecy to sing of heartbreak and tragedy so it would have come as a surprise if this album is cheerful from start to finish. This is the band's ninth studio album but they have several other releases as EPs, live albums, etc. It is fourteen tracks long and is approximately 37 minutes long. It is probably worth noting that I have heard this album...
