thinking they'd heard the last of the Canadian power trio. But with Vapor Trails Messrs. Lee, Lifeson and Peart return refreshed and revitalised. Remarkably for a band whose CV stretches back some 30 years, this album displays all the energy and enthusiasm of their younger days combined now with a supremely confident and mature approach to both musicianship and songwriting. Impeccable production values, in which the multi-layered instrumental tracks are presented with bold clarity, are balanced by thoughtful, occasionally introspective and remarkably personal lyrics from Peart. And it rocks, too, really rocks hard. No other three-piece has ever been as powerful as Rush when they let rip, and in places they really open up here. Clocking in at almost 68 minutes, the album shows the benefits of its lengthy gestation with 13 standout tracks and nothing that could be construed as filler. From the barnstorming opener "One Little Victory", through the poignant "Ghost Rider" to the closing "Secret Touch" (Walt Whitman's "Endlessly Rocking" is the appropriate final refrain), Vapor Trails is the confident product of a group who have always worked hard to deserve their "progressive" tag.--Mark Walker

...his album: His finest moment. Vapor Trails is the 17th studio album in the band’s career and is released on the Atlantic Records label.
I always find it hard to describe their sound as they are quite unique but they used to be compared with progressive rock bands like Yes and Pink Floyd in the 70s, with a bit of a Led Zep vibe but they quickly established their own sound. They used to write epic tracks lasting the entire side of an album but ... ...fleeting life is. Apart from vapor trails, which quickly fade, it refers to "footprints washed away in the rain" or "voices swept away in a hurricane". Poignant stuff and another real grower.

"Surge of energy Spark of inspiration"
One of the few songs that would actually not sound out of place on their latter albums. A very catchy chorus and the usual excellent work by Lifeson. Some of Geddy’s best bass work as well. ...

Advantages: A superlative collection of subtle and complex rock songs Disadvantages: A few weak tracks to finish the album
...a new sound? Vapor Trails is the resulting album; it is a mixture of old style Rush with a modern twist that is unexpected and refreshing. It is a Rock album that has an edge, but also a soft side that should appeal to old and new fans alike. Quite simply it is an album that signals that Rush are back and aiming to get into the Rock and Roll hall of fame. The style is perhaps different than many expected posing a different Rush to the audience – ... ...akin to albums like ‘fly-by-night’. Vapor Trails represents the next stage in their transformation as it is perhaps more like their early music than any of their recent albums. It is perhaps one of their most powerful albums and goes back to the roots of rock music while experimenting with ‘grunge’ and modern heavier rock sounds. It is a key album in the development of Rush; for me it is perhaps one of their most musically ...

Advantages: One of there best work of late Disadvantages: None
RUSH's last release, in 1996's was "Test For Echo".
Since then RUSH fans have waited eagerly for their next studio album. We had a SOLO album from Geddy Lee "My favourite Headache" which had a varied collection of songs, which I still listen too quite often.
Rush's forthcoming album "Vapor Trails" isn't due in stores until 14th May, but there are enough samples out there to give a taste of the recorded songs.

Advantages: Rush back to their rocking best! Disadvantages: Poor production quality
Having been a fan of Rush since the early eighties, I am always filled with anticipation of a new release from the guys.
I was surprised when first listening to this cd, that there are NO keyboards, and no guitar solos! The lack of guitar solos doesn't detract from the listening pleasure though, as Alex really rocks on most of the songs. Geddy, as usual sings with gusto during the rockier songs, as well as with warmth and soul during the slower ... ...Neil Peart...okay, I'll say one word - exceptional. The only bad thing to say about this great cd, is the poor production quality. Fans worldwide have made their voices count, and now a remastered version is due to be released.
All in all, a welcomed return from Rush, which long time, and new fans alike will love. ...
