Brooklyn's Grizzly Bear have amassed a reputation as one of America's best-loved ... more
underground bands, and this third LP repeats the trick of the first two with its gentle blend of indie rock, folk and experimentation. Like previous releases, 'Veckatimest...
Advantages: Great quality and attention to detail usually only found in very expensive teddy bear brands Disadvantages: Not suitable for children under three, but really a bear for grown ups!
Diesel has got to be the most popular Charlie Bear right now and it's easy to see why. No one can resist his soft fur - it's white on the ends and brown at the base so when you stroke him you can see the different colours. He's got the look of a real grizzlybear, not-so-much a cartooney teddy bear, and has really expressive eyes that seem to look right at you!
I don't think that Diesel is a bear for children - he's not suitable for under-threes and is a little too big for a child to hold comfortably.
Diesel is still my favourite Charlie Bear even though there are so many to choose from. They've all got their own personalities and are so nicely made, especially considering the price.
Everyone I have introduced Diesel to falls in love with him and I've given several Charlie Bears as presents, which are always popular! ...
Advantages: A peep at a fascinating trainwreck of a man, with awe-inspiring wildlife footage Disadvantages: Nothing significant
In the last 30 years or so, two larger-than-life figures have been conspicuously enslaved by their twin loves of a) dangerous animals, and b) being on camera. 'Grizzly Man' is the tale of the one that isn't Steve Irwin.
The Bear Necessities
It's a mighty, mighty big world out there. A world of majesty and wonder, a glorious canvas of vast landscapes peopled by strange and fabulous creatures. Yep, nature is a beautiful thing.
Doesn't stop you from being served up as part of her bountiful smorgasbord, though.
Timothy Treadwell was a child of the Long Island suburbs. At school, only his diving ability marked him out as anything other than an ordinary pupil: a 'B' student rather than an 'A', according to his parents. At college his diving scholarship was lost to a combination of heavy drinking and a back injury, so the young man ...

Advantages: Amazing scenery Disadvantages: Week story and can easily get bored watching
. The music which accompanies the film help to tell the story and all the songs were very appropriate for what they were trying to make us feel.
I did find the scenes where the bear cub had dreams very off putting and I did feel that they spoilt the film and the part where the cub eats magic mushrooms is very farfetched and to me just did not seem appropriate.
The 3 actors who played the hunters were all very good at portraying their characters and making me believe in them.
The two bears which were used for the filming, Youk, the cub and Bart, the old grizzlybear were outstanding and I must admit that the way the trainers got them to work together and to show their feelings for each other was amazing.
The film ends with some very appropriate words appearing on the scene which everyone could learn a lot from with all which is going ...

Album Notes
One of the most highly anticipated indie-rock releases of 2009, VECKATIMEST finds Grizzly Bear continuing its nearly exponential leaps in creativity and scope from album to album. While the Brooklyn act's second full-length outing, YELLOW HOUSE, garnered considerable acclaim and solidified the quartet's moody and experimental, yet always tuneful, sound, this remarkable record soars confidently to loftier heights, as best evinced on the urgent folk-tinged opener, "Southern Point," and the gorgeous "Two Weeks," which floats along on stunning vocal harmonies and shimmering electronic flourishes. Like its contemporaries Animal Collective and Deerhunter, Grizzly Bear impressively transcends hipster hype to produce songs that grow more intriguing with time, and, with VECKATIMEST, it may have just crafted its own PET SOUNDS.
Album Reviews
Spin (p.86) - "Steeped in Wilco's bittersweet Americana, and adding a Northeastern Gothic twinge, Grizzly Bear sound like they're trying to break your heart." Q (Magazine) (p.126) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "These former music students have constructed an album full of intricate songs that subtly changes with each listen....It's a beautiful piece of work. The Guardian - "The musical emphasis subtly shifts, from track to track and within tracks to create something that feels rather greater than the sum of its parts." The Observer - "...it's unequivocally one of the most beautiful albums you'll hear this year. Subtle, romantic and enchanting, it can make imaginary castaways of us all" The Independent - "'Southern Point' opens the album on a high, its folksy textures of acoustic guitars, tambourine, dramatic drums and gentle harmonies blossoming gradually, via the addition of piano and strings, into a full-blown Van Dyke Parks-ian antique psych-rock extravaganza" Uncut - "Enigmatic, hype-justifying loveliness"
