I love the Radio One Live Lounge albums, especially the cover versions that the artists choose to do, and this production from British born producer turned DJ Mark Ronson is very much along those lines, hence the title "Version". He has chosen a mixture of songs, some of them bordering on classic ... Read review

the bigger UK chart hits of the last few years, plus a couple of old favourites. Formerly producer for an all-star cast that includes Lily Allen, Christina Aguilera, Robbie Williams, and Amy Winehouse, here Ronson has cajoled some of his famous mates into repaying the favour. The result? An album of A-list karaoke that at times, struggles to transcend its novelty, but nonetheless throws up some fun reversions. The uniting factor is Ronson's band - a live-sounding band augmented with trumpets, saxophones, piano and strings which, to its credit, puts enough of a stamp on the material that no single artist steals the show. And that's quite a feat, as there's some big names here. Lily Allen tackles the Kaiser Chiefs' "Oh My God" with her token gum-chewing insouciance. Amy Winehouse proves The Zutons' "Valerie" was always meant to be a strings-swept Motown stomp. And Tiggers and the late Ol' Dirty Bastard tackle Britney's "Toxic" (although few Wu-Tang fans will be surprised just how far ODB wanders off script). But the most significant misstep? Robbie's take on The Charlatans' "The Only One I Know", an unexpectedly drab remake that serves best to remind you how good the original is. --Louis Pattison
Advantages: A new twist on some contempary classics Disadvantages: Pretty Green is dire
...album opens with an instrumental version of Coldplay's "God Put A Smile On Your Face", and on first listen it really doesn't sound like anything special, but remember with this man it is about the music, and after a few listens the omission of the lyrics are soon forgotten. Watch out Chris Martin, you and your miserable face could be out of a job!! The only negative is that I am sure it would used as backing music on Match Of The Day, or some other ... ...The Kaiser Chiefs anthem. Her version is certainly not as stomping as the original, but the chilled jazz twist reworks the song brilliantly, and Allen's vocals are as good as anything else I have heard her dom and it prevents the song being nothing more than karaoke. That was my first track from the album, but for the majority of people it was the song of summer "Stop Me" featuring little known vocalist Daniel Merriweather, replacing Morrissey at ...

About Version
Version was released in April 2007 and has just earned Mark the Best British Male Brit award. The album is based on reworkings of exisitng songs. It came about following the club success of the reworking of Radiohead's "Just." In his own words: "..I've taken these songs that I love and turned them into Motown/Stax 70's versions... I'm just trying to find something in it, add something to the arrangement or change a groove." ... ...vocalists. There are 14 tracks on the album.
Track Listings and Reviews 1 God Put A Smile Upon Your Face feat. The Daptone Horns
Originally by Coldplay. I think this is my favourite track on the album. It really grabs you and draws you into the album. It is much more upbeat than the original, though intstantly recognisable.
2 Oh My God feat. Lily Allen
Originally by The Kaiser Chiefs. One of the tracks that stands best alone on the album. ...

Great album from the musical mastermind of Mark Ronson. The crafty work is highly original and the remixes and edits of the original songs are excellent. I highly recommend this album to anyone who enjoys dance music and music in general!

...is. Amy Winehouse's version of the Zuton's Valerie is outstanding. I loved the original (and still do) but as big a Zuton fan as I am I think Amy's version is just that little bit better, her voice fits the song perfectly and the womens voice is so pretty yet so dirty at the same time, she will definately go far. If you thought Valerie was good before wait until you here this version. Track 13 LSF by Kasabian featuring Kasabian is another outstanding ... ...and you can almost picture Bez dancing around on stage. Lilly Allen (who I am not the biggest fan of) sings Kaiser Cheifs 'oh my god' (again a band I am not that keen on) so you can imagine that I wasn't expecting big things from this song but I was definately proved wrong. Her voice fits this song perfectly and no one else could quite do it the same, this just proves Mark's genious when it comes to track and artist choices. This is one of my favourites ...

Advantages: Half the songs are bareable Disadvantages: the other half are awful and spoil the songs they have covered
Great mash up CD if you can enjoy listening to some of your favorite tunes but with a \'mark ronson differance\' such as the Oh My God Single - Mixed by Mark Ronson, lyrics by lily Allen (Origianlly By Kieser Chiefs) with some added vocals by Busta Ryhmes.
Excellent listen however i cant see anything spectacular, as all the dj has done is pretty much mix some tracks up, but in a tasteful manor. Could be a great present to a lover of modern day music. ...

Album Notes: On the 2007 follow-up to his overlooked full-length '03 debut, HERE COMES THE FUZZ, London-born/New York City-based DJ/producer Mark Ronson presents an appealing and inventive set of cover tunes in collaboration with an eclectic array of artists. A hit upon its release in the U.K., the lively single "Stop Me" finds Ronson working with Australian R&B performer Daniel Merriweather on an intriguing club-oriented interpretation of the Smiths' "Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before" that deftly mixes in a chunk of the Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On."
Album Reviews: Rolling Stone (p.101) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "VERSION is an audacious set of similar left-field covers turned into dance-soul tracks..."
