Album Notes: Compilation of psychedelic blues rock band Deep Purple's greatest hits. Responsible for some of the most memorable guitar licks in the history of rock music, Richie Blackmore and co. blazed a trail across the world's stages and charts in the 70's, and this collection highlights some of their finest moments. Includes the hits 'Smoke On The Water', 'Hush' and 'Black Night'.

Advantages: Some of rocks finest songs Disadvantages: Some bad tracks used as fillers
...There are various incarnations of DeepPurples's greatest hits but this has to be the best. It comes in a very stylish purplse slip case complete with a glossy book with text written by Hugh Gilmore. This outlines how the band formed, their most important releases and what musicians have been in their ranks throughout the 31 years of their existance.
All the classics are on here from 1969's Hush which was recently covered by Kula Shaker up to 1998's Any Fule Kno That. Some songs aren't worth theirp place on the album but find themselves there because they are title tracks from the bands various albums. An example of this is Fireball. Others such as Speed King and Never before simply aren't good songs but there are some exceptional numbers on here like Stormbringer and Perfect Strangers. Of course DeepPurple have produced some...

Advantages: Encompasses most of their 3 decade career Disadvantages: Not enough early Deep Purple
...If you like deeppurple then this will save you making a compilation. Full of timeless classics from many of their best selling albums with a few singles thrown in for good measure. Deeppurple are comparible to Led Zeppelin in terms of being one of the first "supergroups".
Tracks include Highway Star, smoke on the water, Burn, Speed king and more recent tracks such as Perfect strangers. There have been a few line-ups of DeepPurple, the most notable change was when Ian Gillan left and David Coverdale took his place. This album spans the whole of DeepPurple's 3 decades of music making - In 1974 DeepPurple with David Coverdale was the best selling band in America.
If you are really impressed by what you hear on this album, David coverdale sung with WHITESNAKE, Richie Blackmore played guitar and Roger Glover played bass guitar...

Advantages: Contains well loved, classic, Purple tracks Disadvantages: There are a couple of songs not to my personal taste
...DeepPurple were one of the first heavy metal bands and this greatest hits album shows some of their evolution from a softer more ballad-like sound to some seriously rocking heavy tracks. No one who enjoys hard rock could be without some DeepPurple. Singers David Coverdale (who went on to form White Snake) and Ian Gillan (whose band was called Gillan) went on to have enormously successful careers after leaving Purple, yet they will always be best respected for their work while members of this influential band. Probably the most easily recognised guitare riff in rock history is that of Smoke On the Water, an all-time favourite track for many fans of the genre. This album is definately one for your collection if you are new to DeepPurple. It is a real piece of rock history. The tracks, other than Smoke On the Water are : Black...
