lads, led by brothers Robin and Ali (the one with the odd voice) Campbell, have been plying their very individual, and very British brand of reggae. And, save for a slight shift from the rootsy Ska of their first top-10 single, "King/Food For Thought", to the more commercial likes of "Homely Girl", little has changed over their 43-single career. Although their own tracks were always laid-back and infectious, it was their reggae-lite makeovers of pop classics like "Red Red Wine", "I Got You Babe" and "I Can't Help Falling In Love", that brought their biggest hits and are the main focus ofThe Very Best Of. Not as comprehensive as previous compilations,The Best Of UB40Volume 1andVolume 2, it still boasts more memorable and happily lilting hits than most bands could lay claim to. Of those, two tracks standout a mile--the William Orbit (he who revamped American Pie for Madonna) styled production of their recent cover of "Light My Fire" is exceptional, but "Rat In Mi Kitchen", thanks to superb lyrics, sparse yet perfectly formed dub horns and a little hindsight, is just as good as Brit-reggae gets. --Dan Gennoe

Dully and fast come the first song out from the boxes an so it start with full speed with full Reggae Sound. Clearly we hear the singings and so we have a Song with to much power. This song is very good for you party and your guests can not start to sleep.
Red Red wine is a little bit different and it is not so a fast song. But still you can dance to it and your party is a full success. After Kingston town your party have cult character. You Believe? I think so because this music is also cult!
With full speed we continues! Here you can sweat your soul out from your body an just enjoy the next songs. For nothing different are this songs. Just to have fun! Letīs enjoy our Jamaica Rum and forget this problems from this world. Letīs jump inside another world without problems and think Bob Marley is personally there.
We are inside another world now and with every song we go more far from the Reality. Every Song have this own character, on full with melody and hot rhythm another just with the typical Reggae Sound. The singing is always very clear and so we have always a perfect sound. And with Donīt break my heart and cant help falling in love with you are two nice love songs on this album.

Well, I am back in my reality and the only thing I can tell you is Reggae can be very nice! I know I am not a very big Reggae fan but with this music I really enjoy! I also know Reggae is here in Germany not so very famous but UB 40 know everybody. All what I think is, you should try it! Try this music even if you are not a Reggae fan. To try is never bad. For me I listen here to a peace from the music history.

11 - Don't Break My Heart - 1985 - Passionate slow dancer
12 - Can't Help Falling In Love - 1993 - Elvis re-working for the film 'Sliver'
13 - Watchdogs - 1986 - Medium tempo pop/ballad
14 - Tell Me Is It True - 1997 - Upbeat ballad
15 - Rat In Mi Kitchen - 1986 - Major anthem, rocked the USSR, gotta be played 'LOUD'
16 - Homely Girl - 1989 ... ...and credits.
Overall a very good collection of the best of this band, even if you are not a great fan of UB40, it is worth having in your collection as you will probably remember more than you think, when you listen to it.
I look forward to the next collection in 2020. ...

If a person were to listen to this album, they would automatically be able to recognise at least one third of the songs on the album without having an extensive knowledge of the band. Twenty Years of hits on this Album has helped to create a wonderful, relaxing and enjoyable album, where time seems to pass rather quickly when being listened to. Twenty of the best songs culminated on this album from the brummie boys has produced a terrific easy listening/reggae ...

...title says it is the very best of UB40 and the tracks included are most popular and very easy to humm :-) I recommend it to first time UB40 listeners
