Roots reggae but on top of 80's pop/disco :(
Review of Earth Crisis - Steel Pulse by  jjqburch

Advantages: Lyrics are good, and its and entertaining album
Disadvantages: The 80's pop/disco style ruins any chance of it competing with other reggae available.

...Starting with ‘Steppin Out’, you can’t help but notice the typical eighties cheesy style that is typical of many of the UK reggae scenes releases during this decade. Released in 1984, this album has those cringe worthy eighties synthesized sounds but on top of nice simple bass lines and real catchy lyrics. The vocals are actually of the highest quality with David Hinds (lead vocalist and guitar) providing some fantastic singing on ‘Roller Skates’ and ‘Earth Crisis’ along with the backing singers melodic additions. Steel Pulse managed to include some good meaningful lyrics and messages in most tracks, particularly ‘Bodyguard’ and ‘Grab Education’. All the tracks do have a positive feel to them and are really enjoyable to listen to, but if you have ever heard the bands previous album (True Democracy, 1982) it doesn’t quite match up... Review of Headspace [PA] - Pulse Ultra by  olly_peel

Advantages: unique
Disadvantages: short

...The band was originally formed by childhood friends guitarist Dominic Cifarelli and bassist Jeff Feldman, who after some changes to the band's line-up after a short break-up in 1997 brought on drummer Maxx Zinno and vocalist Vizza. unfortunately i read a couple of months ago on the band's website that Vizza had departed the band due to musical differences. this is a shame because i rather enjoyed his vocal styles on this album and to this day im not sure what the story is concerning a lead singer. anyway. i first heard Pulse ultra a couple of years ago supporting Taproot. i was blown away by this act as usually i find the support acts for small gigs rather unentertaining. the album consists of 14 tracks of pure musical delight in my opinion. It starts with the hard-driven tempo of "Acceptance (Phase 1)" and continues... Read review

Review of Pulse - Pink Floyd by  chopsocky

Advantages: It's Floyd - What more can I say
Disadvantages: No Roger Waters.

...Pink Floyd fans were overjoyed when Pulse was first released in 1994. For many of them it was their first taste of the brilliance that was almost expected of Gilmour and co. Sadly this performance was sans Roger Waters, who had left the band some years before and took legal action out on Gilmour, Mason and Wright claiming that the name Pink Floyd should have been put to bed. He lost that fight, and subsequently Pink Floyd went on to record A Momentary Lapse Of reason and The Division Bell before finally coming to an end. The first half of this performance comes mainly from The Division Bell, which had been released just prior to this tour. The cover artwork, done by the long time Pink Floyd collaborist Storm Thorgerson, is once again a marvel, and you wonder where he manages to get so many good ideas from. It opens with a shimmering...
