Advantages: A story with a moral without being preachy. Disadvantages: I personally feel the ending is a bit difficult to figure out for young children.
A lesson in my third grade had this story of the selfish giant. When I read it back then I was pretty confused about the ending as to where does the giant go and who the little child is. I use to read the story again and again thinking that there might be a clue somewhere but of course there wasn't. All it needed was a little help from the teacher.
