I've always admired Vengerovs playing because whenever I'd heard it on the radio, i felt like it spoke to me and really made an impact. And when I saw him at the first BBC Prom last year play Lalo's ''Spanish Symphony'' I was completely blown away.
Vengerov has that sparkle that so few violinists today have. Like the great Mehnuhin, you can feel the music flow through your veins as you hear it. The Tchaik. violin concerto has always been a favourite of mine, and hearing it when I first started playing was what made me want to carry on, so I myself could be good enough to play this fantastic piece, and so when I hear that my favourite player had released it, I just had to buy it.
And let me tell you, its lived up to expectations fantastically. He plays the whole piee with such sensitivity, and the second movement romance, with such longing and pain that it makes you melt inside. A truely incredible piece by an amazing legendary performer.
The Glazunov concerto was somewhat alien to me. I do know Glazunov's style vaguely from playing his String Quintet and Chant du Menestral but had no idea how incredible the concerto is. Its now one of my favourites with its lush harmonies and obscure melodies and rousing finale, and hearing Vengerovs penetrating yet sweet tone playing makes it all worth while!
I reccomend this to anyone who loves the Romantic Violin Concertos!!!! And anyone who just wants to hear beautiful music!!!!
Like i mentionned before, the only bad thing about this is that it ends and then theres no more!!!! :)
