Advantages: Highly burnished, engaging, musically intelligent and emotionally mature playing; beautiful tone is never saccharine. Disadvantages: Nil.
's instrument is front and centre throughout. It's a rather lean composition, with only strings and winds keeping the cello company on occasion, and brass accents bursting forth in a few, select spots.
THE MINIATURES
Even the smaller pieces receive more than mere perfunctory playing from Ms Clein. Originally written for other instruments by Elgar, these miniatures were arranged for the cello by Julian Milone. Ms Clein's engaging style brings a nice contrast between the skipping staccato notes and smooth, flowing legato ones on 'La Capriceuse'. The lovely 'In Moonlight' and 'Romance, Opus 68' evoke an air of joy tinged with melancholia. On the other hand, a whimsical frothiness is offered in 'Salut d'Amour' and 'Chanson de Matin'. , especially if the potential piece has real quality. How do we know if it is going to capture the audience's imagination if we don't even try?!

Artists:
Cellist Alban Gerhardt is one of the top international cello soloists on the circuit today, with a very wide-ranging repertoire, appearing with such orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish ...

Steven Isserlis is an outstanding cellist. When you listen his playing alive, which I did, you can see how he captures you with his playing. I am a professional viola player for twenty years. I have listened many recordings of Bach cello suites from Rostropovich to Peter Bruns. Isserlis plays the suits in a way that you can find something different in his interpretation. Specially the 6th suit. That suit is very difficult to play actually. You should listen and hear it yourself how it flows. I have to also add the price is actually not that expensive. Because you are going to have the six suits which are usually come in two cds and plus interesting piece again by Bach , Cant del Ocells, ( Song of the Birds'). I highly recommend the cd who are interested in solo cello music, Bach or classical music. ...
