Advantages: A few good tracks Disadvantages: A bit too raw
Voi-la Intruder is the 1st album by Gogol Bordello and was released in 1999 by Rubric Records when the band was relatively unknown. The album has a much more raw style than the later work which has a more polished finish, the album is split in to two parts Movement One (Songs of Immigration in Voi-La Minor) and Movement Two (Optzay Pertruder).
The album sounds exactly what it is a bunch of drunk Russians with a mad Russian Ukrainian ... ...camps around Europe (Poland, Hungary, Austria, Italy) fleeing from the eruption of Chernobyl before moving to Vermont thanks to a resettlement program.
With Eugene, you get somewhere between Borat and Freddy Mercury and it's always fun. This album though is a little bit too raw and a lot of songs just sound rowdy with an accordian. There are enough hits though where Eugene sneaks in and out of Russian and English seemlessly and tells ... more

The album sounds exactly what it is a bunch of drunk Russians with a mad Russian Ukrainian Gypsy (Eugene Hutz) who spent his youth travelling from refugee camps around Europe (Poland, Hungary, Austria, Italy) fleeing from the eruption of Chernobyl before moving to Vermont thanks to a resettlement program.
With Eugene, you get somewhere between Borat and Freddy Mercury and it's always fun. This album though is a little bit too raw and a lot of songs just sound rowdy with an accordian. There are enough hits though where Eugene sneaks in and out of Russian and English seemlessly and tells stories in a more than legendary way like "Greencard Husband", "Letter to Castro" and one of their best songs to date "Start Wearing Purple". The band fuses balkan, gyspy and punk rock pretty well but this album is nothing compared to the band's later work.

"Nomadic Chronicle" 11. "Letter to Castro (Costumes for Tonight)" 12. "Unvisible Zedd" 13. "Sex Spider" 14. "No Threat" 15. "Against the Nature"

Quick review of Voi-la Intruder - Gogol Bordello
This is by far my favorite album of theirs, It shoots you straight into the freak show circus. I think they tired to stay on the weird side of Gogol Bordello on this album. But lucky for us it is just the good weird that we all love. ...
