Timed to coincide with the choirs 60th anniversary, the project features erudite direction from Ann Atkinson and instrumental accompaniments from Jon Cohen, and the "boys" once again get to sing their way through a heady mix of pop standards ("Yesterday"), hymns ("Amazing Grace") and even a splash of opera ("Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves" from Verdis Nabucco). Theres also some filmic material ("Exodus") and a rousing West-End style finale in the shape of "The Rhythm of Life," featuring Michael Ball. Its an encore worthy of an ovation. --Danny McKenna

formed in 1947, plucked from obscurity and transformed into the most unlikely boyband in the world (or at least oldest - the average age is 60, the combined age 3974). In fact, their rise from the fringes to fame is already being primed for a major movie next year (produced by Zygi Kamasa ofBend It Like BeckhamandGood Night and Good Luckfame) - but that's another story. First we haveVoices Of The Valley, an album that shows us precisely why Universal signed a group originally created to sing goodwill songs to the Welsh communities during the harsh post-war years. Comprised of rousing, traditional songs like "Jerusalem", "Danny Boy" and "Abide With Me", and interpretations of popular tunes such as the opener "Sailing", "Unchained Melody" and "You Raise Me Up", it doesn't take long for the logic of the enterprise to strike: the beautiful, graceful sound of 60 men booming joyously through your speakers and the combination of stirring vocal prowess and orchestral embellishments - is truly overwhelming.--Danny McKenna

This CD is excellent. I have always been a fan of Male Voice choirs (not just because I'm welsh) because the overall harmony is gorgeous!! I saw this CD advertised recently on the TV and my parents bought it for me. I was not disappointed. My Top 5 Tracks on this CD:1. Jerusalem 2. Land of My Fathers 3. You Raise Me Up 4. Danny Boy 5. Abide With Me
Jerusalem is my ultimate favourite track on this CD. It is beautiful and they sing it stylishly.
Land of my Fathers is not on my list only because it is my anthem, it is such a strong and powerful song, sung with so much passion.
You Raise Me Up is an awsome song, although the only other version I can think of is the one by Westlife. It was definately the right choice for this CD.
Danny Boy is such a nice song I coudn't leave it out. Again, it well deserves a place on my Top 5 list.
Abide with Me was my first ever solo (I play a brass instrument), played when I was only 6 years old, I have liked the song ever since.
I strongly advise anyone who has not yet bought this CD to purchase it. It will entertain you for hours even if it is not your usual style of music. This CD can be bought on:
