OK. This is my first ever review so please can you all cut me some slack?
From the the beginning; As you can tell from the title of this album, this is third album from the ever popular masked metallers, Slipknot. Anybody who hasn't heard of Slipknot by now should literally be shot by one hell of a large gun :P
Anyone who has heard slipknot's previous self-titled album and their even bigger and louder 'Iowa' album will that they band seem to have maybe lost their touch a little bit. The start of the album starts off as you'd expect it to. Very aggressive and... well Subliminal... but when you get to tracks like 'Circle' and 'Vermilion, PT. 2' you think "hmmm, something ain't right here". Everything comes to a complete boring, slow down! This could be to chill you out and stop you wanting to smash everything up in your room or whatever?! I didn't think it works too well, but hey, everybody has their own opinions right???
On the other hand, as for the remainder of the tracks on the album you do feel like screaming at your friends and family and telling them to **** ***! Maybe not... Tracks like 'Duality', 'Pulse Of The Maggots' and 'Vermillion' balance out my feeling for The Subliminal Verses. These retain the aggressive "In yer face" feeling from the past albums.
This album proves that Slipknot are drastically improving more and more. I'm not saying that they were rubbish are anything! But you can hear just from listening, that lead vocalist, Cory Taylor sounds much clearer and the whole bands beats and riffs are put together better.
Short, but sweet: Volume 3: The Subliminal Verses is a great album for the CD collection. Don't be put off by the one or who slow moving songs that i metioned earlier... GO ON!!! BUY IT!!!
Slipknot are: Corey Taylor (lead singer) Joey Jordison (drums) Sid Wilson (DJ) Chris Fehn (percussions) Shawn Crahan (percussions) James Root (guitar) Mick Thomson (guitar) Paul Gray (bass) Craig Jones (sampler)
Track Listings: 1- Prelude 3.0 2- The Blister Exists 3- Three Nil 4- Duality 5- Opium of the people 6- Vermilion 7- Pulse of the maggots 8- Welcome 9- Circle 10- Before I forget 11- The nameless 12- Vermilion, Pt 2 13-The virus of life 14- Danger keep away
