Slipknot; Volume 3 The Subliminal Verses
I have been a fan of Slipknot for a few years now and after hearing them on the T.V the other day I decided to find the CD's I had bought so I could write some reviews.
The Band
The Band have 9 members from Des Moines, Iowa in America. They come under the Heavy Metal Genre. Each Member has their own Mask which changes every now and then. Shawn 'Clown' Crahan has just recently had one made to feature his feminine side...Never thought one of these boys would have much of a feminie side to be honest but anyway... The Band formed in 1995 and released their Debut album Mate. Feed. Kill in 1996.The band came up with the nickname Maggots for their fans because when they perform live they believe that the fans are feeding off their music and they jump around alot and according to the nine(Slipknot guys) that makes them look like Maggots

Ok so now onto the main stuff...the album tracks

Prelude 3.0 4/5
This is a great track, Awesome little beat which makes you thirst for more in a way...and this band do not dissapoint with beats on this album. Vocals/Lyrics are great. This isn't a fast metal song like most of the stuff this band do, it is quite quiet but very good.
The Blister Exits 5/5
An awesome beat whch goes well with the guitar rhythm. Joey jordison exceeds himself in this track and so does Mick Thompson. Brilliant bass line. I think the vocals are amazing and the lyrics really give this track that edge it needs.
Three Nil 4/5
This is a brilliant track. I love the vocals Corey Taylor has an amazing talent and It improves from here onwards. The turntablist Sid Wilson gives this track an awesome feel to it. This track is deffinatley one you should listen to if you want to know what kind of band Slipknot are.
Duality 5/5
I love this track, it has an awesome video where Slipknot and their Maggots destroy a house in Iowa. This is one of my favourite songs by Slipknot...it is true Slipknot material and you can't get any better than that
I think the little riffs in between this track are superb and when the beat kicks in...you will have a hard time keeping still. Its the type of song if you go to one of slipknots gigs where EVERYONE gets moving and I mean Moving. The beat is awesome as they always are. I think its great where Corey goes from yelling to singing for the chorus because it kind of confuses the mind.
Circle 5/5
This one has a an awesome bass line presented by their Bassist Paul Gray, It also has a nice acoustic rhythm. It is really different from most of the Slipknot stuff you will hear and if you have heard Slipknots heavier stuff and then Listen to this you will understand what I mean.
Welcome 5/5
The beat at the beginning is what caught my attention, it is fast and interesting. The rhythm fits nicely with it and when the vocals start the track really picks up.
Vermilion 5/5
This is a brilliant track. It has an interesting video. One of the best music videos I have seen in a long time. I love the percussions in this track Chris Fehn did a great job. The vocals are excellent too.
Pulse Of The Maggots 5/5
The siren at the start and the sort of army talk you get off corey fascinated me for some reason. When the track really begins...it really begins with the ususal awesome beat and rhythm guitar. It has some great lyrics. The meaning is that Slipknot are what creates the Maggots they are the Maggots lives, i read up on it and it is all really intruiging.
Before I Forget 5/5
This is an awesome track which is featured on Guitar Hero III. The video is good and a bit annoying. You get so close to seeing them with out the masks in it. I've seen pictures of them with out their masks on but I think seing it in a video would be different somehow better. I love the lyrics/Vocals to this track it is what draws me in because like I had said Corey's talent only improves. The turntables in the bridges of this track are excellent and give that song the extra kick.
Vermilion, Pt. 2 5/5
This is basically Vermilion carried on into a second part and it is totally amazing of course. There is a Bloodstone mix on the new album which I haven't actually given a try yet so I will have to. The chorus is the same as Vemilion and it is great. Like Circle this isn't exactly what you would call Slipknot you seem to think 'well where is all the awesome drumming and guitar riffs?' but this and vermilion are great tracks with out all that.
The Nameless 5/5
Getting back to Slipknot's known material here. This is a flawless track with some amazing back up vocals and a brilliant chorus that calms you down for a few seconds until the next verse where your adrenaline gets running again. Great turntables from Sid again in this track.
The Virus Of Life 4/5
This is an awesome track, The beat is the best I have heard and the bass line is great to learn. I love the vocals they give the track an eerie feel to it. The riffs in between are flawless and percussions are excellent.
Danger (Keep Away) 4/5
This is the last track on CD 1 And it is absoloutley brilliant, It starts off with some great vocals and a cool guitar picking, When the drums come in the vocals become alot clearer. Its quite a relaxing track in a certain way as it isn't heavy its not got a fast paced rhythm beat or riff, its simply amazing.
CD 2
Dont Get Close 4/5
This is a great track it has an attention grabbing beginning with a mixture of the different instruments and around 0:50 into the track the vocals start and it just blows you away. Corey taylor really puts himself out there and proves that he is great at what he does.
Probably one of my favourite tracks I really love the line 'One life, Nine Hearts and Eighteen Hands To Rip You Apart' it doesnt mean anything to me but I just love it. The beat is friggin awesome and so difficult to learn! I tried and failed seriously bad, just proves Joey Jordison is one hell of a drummer. I totally reccomend this track if you want a taste of Slipknot.
Vermillion[Terry Date Mix] -/-
I honestly dont listen to this track, Its the same lyrics and rhythm and stuff but with a slight difference that not even I can tell what it is, so I just listen to the original, much easier.
Danger Keep Away 4/5
This is basically the same as the last track on CD 1 except longer, and alot clearer. I prefer this one to the short length version as you really feel that this is slipknot material, Brilliant track Dont see how anybody can dislike it.
The Blister Exists [Live] 4/5
This is live in london and I just wanna say that I REALLY want to see this band live and this track just gives me that little nudge to say 'Hey go on get tickets' of course my brother would have to go with me because their shows are wild! Even live they manage to blow you away! It is actually like they are in a studio when playing this track because it is that amazing it really is worth listening to.
Three Nil [Live] 4/5
Corey actually calls this one New Abortion when he introduces it, I mainly focus on the beat of this track because it always amazes me.
Disasterpiece [Live] 5/5
This track is another reason to want to go to one of their shows, I mean if you listen to it and listen to the crowd screaming it sounds immense. They perform this track tremendously I absoloutly love it an again its like they are in a studio when performing it.
I love this album, deffinatley one of my favourites out of all the slipknot albums.
This isn'y my original review, My original probably didnt save properly so this isnt as good as the one I wrote, if i decide to I might update it a little at some point and spend more time on it but for now it is good enough.
