I think i like this song soo much mainly because of the addictive guitar riffs and the lyrics of the chorus. Also the general sound of the track makes me wanna shout "Hell Yeah!" at the top of my voice! It's just one of those awesome, feel-good kinds of heavy metal sounds.

Like Metallica and Iron Maiden, Pantera are one of those bands that have greatly influenced music in the heavy metal genre and as they were formed in 1982 they had to make sure they produced tracks in this genre that could keep up with the competition, but they didn't actually recieve recognition for their work until the 1990's. In my opinion this album is a great example of why Pantera are good at what they do.
Pantera consists of:
Phil Anselmo - Lead Vocals Vinnie Paul - Drums "Dimebag" Darrel - Lead Guitar Rex Brown - Bass
Pantera were formed by the Abbott brothers and were originally from Arlington in Texas, USA. Even though they formed in 1982 they didn't find there lead vocalist until 1987. which left the band in a bit of a mess at the beginning of thier career, but as this album shows, Pantera picked themselves up from the slums and really worked thier arses off to achieve thier legendary status!
THE ALBUM: WHY BUY IT?
Well, firstly this isn't one album...it's TWO IN ONE! and it's both of Pantera's greatest albums! Also the fact that the albums have been re-mastered makes them even better, becuase all the tracks have been made so that they give a new shine to both these albums.
THE GOOD/BEST POINTS:
1. 23 tracks of the most hardcore metal ever to leave texas! 2. The fact that it's Pantera! 3. The lyrics are (in some of the tracks) slightly funny and give some of the heavy tracks a little kick of humour! 4. Most of the tracks never get boring!
THE BAD/WORST POINTS:
1. No lyrics booklet within the album so if your wanting to learn the lyrics to any of the tracks you'll most likely have to check on the web, which can be tedious at times. 2. Some of the songs seem the same and some can be quite bland.
THE VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER ALBUM:
Produced by: Terry Date, Vinnie Paul and Pantera
The Tracklist:
1. Mouth For War 2. A New Level 3. Walk 4. Fucking Hostile 5. This Love 6. Rise 7. No Good (Attack The Radical) 8. Live In A Hole 9. Regular People (Conceit) 10. By Demons Be Driven 11. Hollow
THE SONGS I LIKE MOST ON THIS ALBUM:
3. Walk
I think i like this song soo much mainly because of the addictive guitar riffs and the lyrics of the chorus. Also the general sound of the track makes me wanna shout "Hell Yeah!" at the top of my voice! It's just one of those awesome, feel-good kinds of heavy metal sounds.
11. Hollow
As the softest song on the album, i really admire this track, becuase it shows how Pantera can vary their sound and also how Phil Anselmo can actually sing and not just scream into a microphone!
THE FAR BEYOND DRIVEN ALBUM:
Produced by Terry Date & Vinnie Paul
The Tracklist:
1. Strength Beyond Strength 2. Becoming 3. 5 Minutes Alone 4. I'm Broken 5. Good Friends And A Bottle Of Pills 6. Hard Lines Sunken Cheeks 7. Slaughtered 8. 25 Years 9. Shedding Skin 10. Use My Third Arm 11. Throes Of Rejection 12. Planet Caravan
THE SONGS I LIKE MOST ON THIS ALBUM:
3. 5 Minutes Alone
This track has an amazing chorus and some strong lyrics that give the track more structure. Also the drums are a highlight in this song, becuase they are so rapid and full of energy, which gives the guitar and vocals a well balanced backing beat.
4. I'm Broken
In my opinon i'd say this is one of Pantera's most well known tracks. It has a killer guitar riff and Phil's shrill shrieks really fit the essence of what this track is supposed to represent, which is basically the feeling of being betrayed by someone and also about the concept of how death can affect people.
9. Shedding Skin
The best thing about this song is that it has a added kick to the chorus, which is basically a kind of whisper/sigh sound that sends shivers down my spine every time i here it! This song is kind of hauting, which is why it's so awesome!
OVERALL VERDICT:
This album is a slice of fried gold from this heavy metal Texan posse! It has all the great things a awesome heavy metal album should have, an amazing lead vocalist, an epic guitar player, solid drum riffs and a killer bassist. To all you heavy metal fans, support Pantera, becuase they prove that they are legends with this kick ass collection of hit after mind shredding hit!

Reviews which might be of interest for "Vulgar Display Of Power/Far Beyond Driven - Pantera"
Advantages: Brutal and great riffs, has elements of Pantera Disadvantages: might resemble pantera too much for some people, not much originality
The first Throwdown song i heard was Holy Roller, being a Pantera fan i was impressed, it sounded like they fused songs from the Pantera albums VulgarDisplay Of Power and FarBeyondDriven. Some criticise them for copying Pantera but i am glad that they , it is much needed in todays metal. And Holy roller is really the only song which songs like a straight up Pantera clone, some songs on the album also resemble the sound of Hatebreed; and other parts it seems they have their own sort of sound.
The whole album is filled with crushing riffs and strong choruses, the guitar work is really fresh, the singer is impressive, especially on Holy Roller where he strongly resembles Phil Anselmo. I will definately be playing this album for a long time. If you like Pantera you should probably check this out, if your a metal head i think its ...
