Hello All! it's Andy again, back with another mind numbingly boring opinion....wait, I was only joking, it'll be good really. As I'm here stuck in Australia and college doesn't start for another week, I've decided to write again, for all you lucky people. This time I have decided on the musical talent of Texan band Pantera and their aggresive style.

Now as you know I'm not a big fan of the newer Metal of today. Things like Linkin Park really make my flesh creep, so thank god there was actually good metal back in the days. Pantera kicked off their career in 1991 with their debut album, Cowboys From Hell, which got rave reviews and led them to fame. Vulger Display was their second effort and was much more musically sound than the first effort and led them to more success. In my opinion none of the further releases could touch this one, as great as they were.

Pantera consists of:

Phil Anselmo - Vocals
Diamond Darrell - Guitars
Rex - Bass
Vinnie Paul - Drums

Ok, now to set out the track list and Andy's Top 5 songs of the album.

1. Mouth For War
2. A New Level
3. Walk
4. Fucking Hostile
5. This Love
6. Rise
7. No Good (Attack The Radical)
8. Live In A Hole
9. Regular People (Conceit)
10. Be Demons Be Driven
11. Hollow

Ok Folks, now time for the famous top 5 in descending order.

5. Mouth For War
==================
A real classic Pantera song to kick of the album in fine style. This is one of their more melodic songs, where as in many the go for an insane speed fest. Phil spends most of the song shouting out the lyrics with his rugged vocals. Quite a simple but effective song this one, but well worthy of a listen and praise.

Andy's Rating - 7/10

4. This Love
=============
For the first part of the song, you'll mistake this for some kind of pop rock, that is until the big bang happens. Phils vocals are very subdued on this, but yet very powerful. He does actually have a very good voice when he isn't screaming the lyrics. The big bang I'm talking about is when the chorus finally hits us. All through the song the music is picked from the guitar at a rather slow tempo. So when Diamond Darrell hits the chorus, he blasts it out very powerfully and Phil starts getting aggressive on vocals. Just make sure your Gran leaves before the chorus! You've been warned. A nice change (for most of the song) from the usual heavyness.

Andy's Rating - 8/10

3. Rise
========
It's really difficult picking the top 3 now, as the next three songs are equally as good in my head. Rise is a seriously fast song. Diamond Darrells hand must have nearlly set on fire at the start of the song. After the madness at the start, it kicks into a bitch ass catchy riff which just makes it a perfect headbanging track. Pre chorus and the madness kicks in again, with simular speed to the start. Its a real classic and diverse track. Phils vocals are again brilliant for this track and he changes them to suit the pace of the track.

Andy's Rating - 10/10!

2. Walk
=========
Everyone who listens to Metal music in general has to know this track, it's f*cking legendry. The riff is probably the simplest riff ever to do, but yet it sounds good. The main reaqson for that being is because the guitar is tuned to dropped D and there's a hell of a lot of Distortion, making it sound brilliant. The chorus is just unforgetable and one I've sang many times on my way back from clubs. The very simple "RE....SPECT.....WALK" was heard down the streets of manchester many many times. A slow paced track, but a bloody classic from the already heaving pantera vault.

Andy's Rating - 10/10 What Else!

1. Fucking Hostile
===================
Ahhhh yes down to number 1 already and what a way to finish this prestigious list. The track starts with Phil shouting 1-2-3 and then is kicks into sheer madness. I thought Rise was a fast song but this is sheer Palm Muting to the extreme. Diamond Darrell deserves a big fat medal for the way he handles this track. The song slows down slightly for the chorus for Phil to shout out the lyrics in typical Pantera style. The solo is also a classic on the song and can be heard half way through the track. the end is just brilliant and used to be heard at my college all the time as I turned it into a sound file. Phil gets all his aggression together and shouts "In turn your making us....F*cking....F*cking....F*CKING HOSTILEEEEEEEEE* and then you hear the microphone buzz, which is a good effect.

Well thats my top 5 songs and what an interesting affair it was, huh? Time to give a few more details and then wrap it up

Inlay, Etc
===========
On the front cover of the album is some poor bastard getting hit full force in the face, by someone's fist. The inside of the booklet includes pics of all the band, every single lyric, the usual thanks and a nice advert for cowboys from hell. Phil is looking his usual Texan Hard Bastard self, armed with a skinhead. The rest of the band have major long hair and my advice to Vinnie Paul is to get on the slim fast as soon as possible.

As far as I know nearly every music shop stock this album. Your best bet is going to musiczone, where you'll find it for around £7, which is a bloody bargain. Better than paying £12 for Stinkin Parks new crappo effort. Anyway I'm gonan wrap it up now people....

Cheers For The Read!

Andy
