Hello! My name is Alex and I love music with a passion. I currently play guitar in two bands, one a funky blues/rock band and an originals rock band. I also love films, horror and thrillers being my favourite genres.

This is, put quite simply, an amazing metal album. Released after their first label debut "Cowboys From Hell", "Vulgar" ups the ante in everyway. Gone are the Rob Halford screams and glam-rock tendencies of "CFH". Vocalist Phil Anselmo delivers a more brutal, aggressive vocal style which suits the harder music perfectly. The great thing is, the vocals are still very defined and clear which really adds to the experience of this album.
The trio of Diamond (Dimebag on later releases) Darrell, Vinnie Paul on the Drums and Rex Brown on Bass combine to make an earth shattering and precise musical explosion, containing some of Pantera's Best work. The album has variety without being a mish-mash of styles, it is a focused record where every song has that distinct Pantera sound. They coined the phrase "Power Groove", well this album is the definition of that saying.
The album explodes from the start with one of my favourites "Mouth For War", containg a great catchy chorus riff and a crushing verse riff. "A New Level", is a great song that not many other people seem to talk about, but the main grinding chorus Riff can only be described as brutal! "Walk" is a very popular song, not just amoungst Pantera fans but metal fans in general, whilst a good song featuring great drumming from Vinnie Paul, is just isn't one of my favourites. Still good though. There is a good deal of variety on the album with varying speeds and the ballads "This love and "Hollow", which are both excellent by the way, and feature great singing from Anselmo, which further showcases his talent. "Regular People" is probably my favourite song on the album and features amazing guitar and drum work.
To my eyes this is Panteras best album, but they are all excellent. If you do not have any Pantera albums, start with "Cowboys From Hell" and/or "Vulgar Display of Power first. In fact, if you are a metal fan, and do not have this album, you owe it to yourself to get a copy. You will not regret it.
