I was just thinking to myself doesn't time fly when your having fun, but then I realized I'm bored as hell and I'm talking bollocks as usual. Since my Exams Results I have been waiting and waiting for college to start. During this period I have been listening to a lot of music and one album that came into my music loving grasp, was that of the Wu-Tang Clan and there 2000 release - The W.
As I had played all my other CD's out I decided to give this album another go and I'm glad I did. I remembered why I bought this album in the first place and why it was top of my collection for a long time. The Wu-Tang Clan have released 4 albums to date including many Killa Bee's albums that have been released. The W is there secong recent album, there most recent being the 2001 release, Iron Flag. The clan consist of 9 members - RZA, GZA, Method Man, O.D.B, Ghostface, Masta Killa, U-God, Raekwon and Inspectah Deck. There group hail from Staten Island in the U.S.A and they started out in 1993.
Apart from their original album, this one sticks out in my mind, because of the quality of most of the tracks. The other releases lack something that the W picks up on, it has a certain grit about it, like the first album, but still manages to sound like a professional job, which it is. I'll shut my face now and start reviewing the songs and other things off the album.
Here is the track list for The W
1. Intro 2. Careful (Click Click)* 3. Hollow Bones* 4. Redbull 5. One Blood Under Wu 6. Conditioner 7. Protect Ya Neck (The Jump Off 2000)* 8. Ley Me N****s Live 9. I Can't Go To Sleep* 10. Do Ya Really (Thang Thang)* 11. The Monument 12. Gravel Pit* 13. Jah World
All songs that are marked with a * indicates that they are my favourite songs on the album and I have an urge to write about them. Better not disappoint anybody then.
Gravel Pit =========== Everybody know this song, it was released in the charts a couple of years ago, in 2000 to be precise. This song has to be one of the best on the album, just for the beats alone. The video shows them being transferred into 2000ad which goes well with the song. The song has a kind of rough beat about it but could still get anybody up and dancing. The production of this song can be thanked on production guru Rza, who fortunately is also a member of the group. I think this song managed to get to around 3rd in our English charts, which isn’t bad for a rap act.
Hollow Bones ============= My mate and me used to have a strange fascination with my attic a few years ago. We used to sit up in the attic, talking about random things (you know what I mean) and listening to this album. The song that reminds me most of the attic is Hollow Bones, a song that goes well with any atmosphere. I love this song it has very calming beats and is the best song that wasn’t released out of the whole album. With this song brings memories of days gone bye……sigh…..lol
Protect Ya Neck ============ This was the song that was released along side Gravel Pit and probably got them a few more sales of there album. The song was released on music channels way before Gravel Pit and got fans ready for their new album. The song is very upbeat and high tempo. It is a song that can easily get you up and dancing and in the mood (for partying…obviously) the thing I love about this track is the way its put together. Again praise goes to RZA for such tireless production.
I Can’t Go To Sleep =============== This is the song that features none other than the man himself, Isaac Hayes, you’re damn right. It provides two different styles and gels them together for perfection. Isaac Hayes’ deep but smooth voice and the rough beats of RZA and Ghostface Killah. This song really is a great one to listen to and reminds me that all rap isn’t gangsta.
Careful (Click Click) ================ This is a really dark Wu-Tang song that is reminiscent of songs that feature on Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), there first ever album. By doing this song the Wu-Tang Clan still prove that they can return to there roots, even when producing such great music. The video produced for this song showed them having a gunfight with people in a nightclub, which goes well with the style and lyrics of the song. All in all a great track that announces the album brilliantly.
Do You Really (Thang Thang) ======================= This is a great song to listen to when you want to liven the atmosphere in the room us, as its that type of song. The mixing is from top rap DJ, DJ Kay Slay and he does a great job at the helm. Most of the lyrical greatness comes from probably there most known and influential member Method Man. The tune is very upbeat and the chorus is very simple, but effective. All of these ingredients mixed together make for a almost perfect song.
I love all 4 of my Wu-Tang albums and this gets my vote at number 2. It’s a close battle with Enter The Wu-Tang, but the latter just comes out on top. The sheer grit shines in the first album and can be missed in certain parts of The W. I have loved rap for many years, but I never bought an album until this one was released. I am now an avid Rap fan and have a big collection of albums. Maybe this album inspired me to listen to rap music more, it made a big enough impact on me to change my tastes in music.
The album has had many bad reviews from Rap fans in U.S.A. but I think it’s a fantastic album, whatever anybody else says. The W can be bought from anything between £8.99 - £12.99 at all good music stores.

Well that’s me and another review done, probably my last of the month now. Thanks for the read all my ciao friends, hope I helped you understand how much Rap music means to me. Oh and one more thing, please don’t say “it’s not my type of music” actually I don’t know why I bother saying it, It’ll just get more people saying it……lol……Andy :)
Advantages: Incredible Lyrics, Rza Production usually intact, Nas and Redman Appearances Disadvantages: ODB is still MIA, Busta Rhymes, Too Much Cappadonna, Some Below Average or Horrible Tracks
I've heard a lot of mixed opinions about the Wu-Tang Clan and The W. A lot of people truly like it, but some hate it. Well im here to give you the truth about this album. You may remember the Wu-Tang's classic Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers, well this is nowhere near like it, at all. But its not horrible either. Its a relatively good CD... well.. i dont got much to say with this intro since most people know these guys... so check out the review... ... ...Finger Jab / Chamber Music (5 Stars) 2. Advantages: Quality rapping as always Disadvantages: Mixed in terms of production. Less Underground
The hip hop culture has changed a lot since the 36 chambers album.
The grooves on the new album 'The W' is still raw, but it doesnt have the same underground feeling of their first effort, but this is inevitable as hip-hop has become very commercialised since 36 chambers, on the east cost too, with puff daddy's 'bad boy' influence. therefore their style has changed with time.
Lead single 'Gravel pit' is the main track that proves how commercial ... ...& careful (click click)show the harder side of the clan that will always be there in elements. But overall the album is rather mixed (production-wise), unlike their first album which was consistently awesome. But considering their last album 'forever' was a long double cd of mediocre tunes, the W feels like a 'partial' return to a more natural sound.
Here is a review of some of the tracks

Advantages: Gravel Pit Disadvantages: Spending money on this CD
As a teenager, hip hop was my thing and groups like Public Enemy were my idols. As I grew older, and the rap/hip hop scene really started to take off, and groups such as 2 Live Crew and Public Enemy were overtaken by the likes of Wu Tang Clan in the mid 1990's, I started to drift away from that area of music as it seemed diluted or very copycat. In the year my daughter was born (2000), Wu Tang released what was probably their most mainstream album ... ...British garage scene, they were the closest this country has got to a group like Wu Tang Clan in that we are never really sure of their exact line up, as group members come and go, release some solo material successfully, and then return back to the fold from time to time. Even those middle of the road music fans amongst you may know of Method Man, who had a guest spot with Texas at The Brits a few years ago. That said, there are nine founder members ...

Advantages: A good one for the collection Disadvantages: Not quite up to the standard of 36 chambers
Classic Albums have always been hard to follow up, whether it has been with Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, KRS One, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest or Public Enemy. Somehow these artists get lost along the way either to commercial leanings, loss of focus or assuming they know what the fans want when they are far off the mark. The Wu have particularly struggled with this concept as evidenced with all the albums since 'Enter the 36 Chambers' and 'Wu-tang Forever'. ... ...Wu's popularity and belief that they could ever reach the heights of say 'Cuban linx' or 'Liquid Swords' but you have to ask which of the 3 reasons the Wu faltered with. With all the problems surrounding the group that have developed along with the original problem of getting 8 core members together the Wu needed to conquer this to come back with something that would rectify what could ultimately be their downfall. As usual, anticipation has been ...

Advantages: Includes: Gravel Pit Disadvantages: Could do with more better tracks
This year already brought us the return of Dr. Dre, LL Cool J and Snoop Dogg. Eminem, Dead Prez and Outkast broke through. And on the breach of 2001, another nine "niggaz" have joined the Gravel Pit. Or should we say ten, 'cause as on the last two albums, Cappadonna features on half of the tracklisting. Who am I talking about ? I am talking about RZA, GZA, U-God, Masta Killa, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck and the imprisoned ... ...The Wu Tang Clan are back with another Shao Lin master class instructor disc. The album starts of with "Chamber Music". It follows into "Careful (Click, Click)", a nice gangsta-rap flavoured track. For "Hollow Bones" the Clan used a sample of Sly and the Family Stones. On "Redbull" they got the help of Redman. "One Blood Under W" is the first of two tracks featuring the soulfull Junior Reid. "Conditioner" is a duet of ODB and Snoop Dogg, the only ...

Advantages: Best album produced by the Wu-Tang Clan Disadvantages: none
...With the release of the Wu-TangClans third album, the W, its interesting to see that their debut album, 'Enter the 36 Chambers' still adorns the shelves of music shops worldwide, and is still very popular. Being the 3rd album I ever bought, 36 Chambers was definately a good choice, and despite years of listening to it, its still my favourite album. The Wu-TangClan combine excellent wordplay and battle their way through the album, which is laced with martial arts samples, giving it that authentic flavour. Produced by RZA, one of the founding members of the Clan, this is a masterpiece that shouldn't be missed by any hip-hop fan....

Advantages: Meth & Red work well together Disadvantages: none
...I bought this album after listening to Method Man on his hit with Limp Bizkit 'N Together Now'. I had also heard him on many of the Wu-TangClan's tunes from the album 'The W'. I had only ever heard Redman on the tune he did with Eminem 'Off The Wall'. Anyway, it had good reviews on Amazon.co.uk so I decided to check it out.
I was pleasantly surprised when I put it into my CD player, because I expected it to be mediocre but it was excellent. The Beats are good and Meth and Red work so well together. The lyrics are good, but explicit so this CD isn't really suitable for younger listeners.
This album shows both Red & Meth's talents as MC's & after hearing this I'm definitely going to buy solo albums by these two artists. Standout tunes are: 'Blackout', 'Cereal Killer' and 'Dat's Dat S**t'
Overall, I think this CD is a must...

Advantages: Deck is an amazing lyricist, Some Truly Excellent Beats, Good Subject Matter Disadvantages: A few average tracks, some weaker beats
...above average and Gza's "Beneath the Surface" was widely slept-on. Besides that, the rest of the members of the Wu-TangClan were basically A.W.O.L. It was then that the widely anticipated solo album of Inspectah Deck had dropped. Uncontrolled Substance is the subject of mixed reviews. Some people love it, some hate it, some think its alright. I'll be the judge of that.

Seven years after the nine-member Wu-Tang Clan debuted with what is arguably one of the best hip-hop albums ever recorded, they released their third album, THE W. This album attempts to recapture the classic feel that put the group on the map, which must be the reason they titled one of its tracks "Protect Ya Neck 2000." Though much has changed since ENTER THE WU-TANG (36 CHAMBERS), the Wu still sound as new as their first album. The somber sounds of the album's most heartfelt tracks, "One Blood" and the bonus cut "Jah World," use an interpolation of popular reggae songs to highlight the struggle the Clan rap about. With only two guest MCs appearing on THE W (Redman on "Red Bull" and Snoop on "Conditioner"), the members of the Wu have plenty of verses to spread their knowledge. While not a re-creation of ENTER THE WU-TANG, THE W still goes for the jugular in the same way that this crew has always done.
