Advantages: A great musical mix! Disadvantages: The Shane West track!
On seeing the movie I immediately craved the soundtrack to go with it. The movie had the most enjoyable mix of melodic rock sounds and pure pop candy from mandy Moore herself.
You can't go wrong with Switchfoot for lyrics and throwing in a few tracks of theirs really made you think further about what the film meant. The only mistake in this OST is that there just isn't ENOUGH Switchfoot. Switchfoot open with "Dare you to move", ... ...what's to come afterwards.
Having the Mandy tracks on the CD give it an equal balance and give it that "good girl next door" feel to it, as well as having the edgy songs that may reflect Shane West's character. Speaking of Shane, "So What Does It All Mean" is a track performed by his band Jonny Was, also known as "West, Gould & Fitzgerald". This for me, was the low point. You can't go wrong with Switchfoot for lyrics and throwing in a few tracks of theirs really made you think further about what the film meant. The only mistake in this OST is that there just isn't ENOUGH Switchfoot. Switchfoot open with "Dare you to move", it's got to be a favourite. It prepares you for what's to come afterwards.
Too much shouting so much so that you can't make out what they're saying...which isn't a good thing!
I noticed that the Switchfoot tracks were played in parts of the film where there wasn't a lot of dialogue which worked really well. At times when Landon and Jamie had a fight, "You" was playing and the words fit so well with the situation as he is driving down the road with tears rolling down his cheeks. It gives you a chance to really listen to the words and feel what the characters were feeling.
Another highlight, aside from Switchfoot is definitely the Rachael Lampa track, "When you believe". I'd never heard of her until I saw the movie but when I heard the song, even though it was only very short, I loved her voice. It actually sent tingles down my spine the first time I heard it in full. This song is a really inspirational song and has worked a few times for me on a bit of a not so great day.
Mandy and Switchfoot are the main artists featured on this pure quality CD but even the one off artists do a good job at keeping the theme going. Toploader's "Dancing in the Moonlight" and The New Radical's "Mother we just can't get enough" give it a give good feeling while Rachael Lampa brings a gentleness amongst the rock. This CD is the ultimate accesory for anyone owning the DVD or VHS, definitely worth every last penny!

This CD is the one I always put on, because every song is just so good.
The switchfoot songs are very good, especially the song "YOU" which is such a sweet song. If you enjoyed the movie I would seriously recommended you to buy this cd, as it brings back memories of parts of the film. Such as, one of my favourite song called "Someday we'll know" (which is on the CD too), the lyrics to it are really nice and it is played in the movie when Jamie and ... ...the songs on the CD are performed by Mandy Moore who stars as Jamie in the movie, and her voice is amazing with the way she sings Only Hope is truly outstanding, (this is the song she sings in the play in the movie) and Cry, is an awesome song too.

Album Notes
Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, the film A WALK TO REMEMBER features teen phenom Mandy Moore as straight-laced Jamie Sullivan, the 17-year-old protagonist who ends up getting involved with and changing for the better the town bad boy Landon Carter (Shane West). Not surprisingly, Moore's vocal talents have landed her on the soundtrack with lovelorn ballads ("Only Hope", "It's Gonna Be Love"), a mid-tempo nugget ('Cry"), and a heartfelt duet ("Someday We'll Know" with Jonathan Foreman). Foreman's Contemporary Christian Music group Switchfoot also helps maintain the mood of innocence with secular fare like the ruminative "Only Hope," hook-filled slow roller "Learning To Breathe," and chiming "Dare You To Move". Other notable cuts include Toploader's snappy cover of '70s one-hit wonder King Harvest ("Dancin' In The Moonlight"), a ballad by Christian teen songbird Rachael Lampa ("If You Believe"), and a slice of soaring, blue-eyed soul by the late New Radicals ("Mother, We Just Can't Get Enough"). There's even a stab at alt-rock by Moore co-star Shane West via West, Gould & Fitzgerald's "So What Does It All Mean?"
