A 72 minute long speedmetal album is something you rarely see around, and even more rare is that there are no filler tracks either on this record!! The first 5 songs are taken from their previous selftitled EP and the last track, Judas, which was released as a single, can only be found on the cd version of this album. All the 15 tracks were recorded 1985 except Judas which was recorded one year later.
Ok, let's talk about the music! I definately think this record is a breakthrough in it's genré. The guitars are excellent and the melodies will stay in your mind forever. The tempo is fullspeed ahead from the beginning to the end, no ballads found here, so this is not recommended for the fainhearted. I love all the tracks on this album, but I think "how many tears" stands out somehow. This track goes like a rollercoaster, it has some slower parts and you can also find some accoustic guitar in one place of the song. Kai Hansen, who nowadays is the singer/vocalist for Gamma Ray, does both guitars and vocals on this record too. This is his first vocal performance on any record (and his last one for Helloween) and unfortunately it's far away from what they are today. The vocals are mediocre and his voice sound somehow unstable, however i guess it's not that easy to play guitar and sing at once.
The booklet is also quite nice looking. The cover looks great and you can also find all lyrics from their songs there. Tracklisting : Starlight, Murderer, Warrior, Victim of fate, Cry for freedom, Walls of Jericho, Ride the sky, Reptile, Guardians, Phantoms of death, Metal invaders, Gorgar, Heavy metal is the law, How many tears, Judas.
